PSALM LXXII. [ [verse 1] The salm of Asaf.]

Hou good the God of Irael; to hem that ben in [of A.] riȝt herte. [verse 2] My feet for|sothe ben almost moued; almost ben held doun [out A.] my goingis. [verse 3] For I enuyede vp on wicke men; seande the pes of synneres. [verse 4] For ther is not respit to the deth of hem; and fastnyng in the wounde of hem. [verse 5] In the trauaile of men thei ben not; and with men thei shul not be scourgid. [verse 6] Therfore heeld hem pride; thei ben co|uered with wickidnesse, and with ther vnpitousnesse. [verse 7] Wente forth as of talȝ the wickidnesse of hem; thei ouerpassiden in to lust of herte. [verse 8] Thei thoȝten and speeke shreudenesse; wickidnesse in heiȝte they speeken. [verse 9] Thei putten [puttiden AH.] in to heuene ther mouth; and the tunge of hem wente in [in to A.] the erthe. [verse 10] Therfore shal ben conuertid my puple heer; and fulle daȝis shul be founden in hem. [verse 11] And thei seiden, Hou wot God; and whether is ther kunyng in heiȝte? [verse 12] Lo! tho synneres, and [in A.] abun|dende in the world; weldeden richessis. [verse 13] And I seide, Thanne with oute cause I iustefiede myn herte; and wesh among in|nocentis myn hondis. [verse 14] And I was scourgid al dai; and my chastising in the moru|tidis.

[verse 15] If I seide, I shal telle thus; lo! the nacioun [naciouns AH.] of thi sones I haue repreued. [verse 16] I eymede, that I shulde knowe that; tra|uaile is befor me. [verse 17] To the tyme that I entre in to the seyntuarie of God; and vnderstonde in the laste thingus of hem. [verse 18] Neuerthelatere for treccheries thou leidist to hem; thou threwe hem doun, whil thei weren rerid [arered EH.] vp. [verse 19] What maner be thei maad in to desolacioun; feerli thei faileden, thei pershiden for ther wickidnesse. [verse 20] As a sweuene of risende men; Lord, in thi cite the ymage of hem to noȝt thou shalt bringe. [verse 21] For enflaumed is myn herte, and [verse 22] my reenys ben al chaungid; and I to noȝt am broȝt, and I wiste not. [verse 23] As a beeste I am maad anent thee; and I euer|mor with thee. [verse 24] Thou heelde my riȝt hond, and in thi wil thou broȝtist me thennys; and with glorie thou vndertoke me. [verse 25] What forsothe is to me in heuene; and of thee what wolde I vp on erthe? [verse 26] My flesh failide, and myn herte; God of myn herte, and my part, God in to with|oute ende. [verse 27] For loo! that longen hem|self awei fro thee shul pershen; thou lostist alle that don fornycacioun fro thee. [verse 28] To me forsothe to cleue to God is good; to [and A sec. m.] putten in the Lord God myn hope. That I telle out alle thi prechingus; in the ȝatis of the doȝter of Sion.
