PSALM XXXVIII. [ [verse 1] In to the ende, `the song [the sones A. sonis H.] of Dauid, for Y ditym.]

[verse 2] I seide, I shal kepe my weies; that I gilte not in my tunge. I putte to my mouth warde; whan the synnere shulde stonde aȝen me. [verse 3] I becam doumb, and am mekid, and heeld my pes fro [for A.] goodis; and my sorewe is renewid. [verse 4] Myn herte wex al hot with inne me; and in my swete thenking ful out shal brenne fir. [verse 5] I spac in my tunge; Lord, mac knowen to me myn ende. And the noumbre of my daȝes, what it is; that I wite what failith to me. [verse 6] Lo! mesurable thou hast

put my daȝes; and my substaunce as noȝt befor thee. Neuerthelatere al vanyte; eche man liuende. [verse 7] Neuerthelatere in ymage passeth a man; but in veyn he is al [Om. A.] disturbid. He tresoreth; and vn|knowith, to whom he shal gedere tho thingus. [verse 8] And now what is myn abiding? whether not the Lord? and my sub|staunce anent thee is. [verse 9] Fro alle my wickidnessis [wickenesse E. wickidnesse H.] pul me awei; reprof to the vnwise man thou hast ȝiue me. [verse 10] I becam doumb, and openede not my [verse 11] mouth, for thou didist; moue awei fro me thi scourgis. [verse 12] Fro the strengthe of thin hond I failide in blamyngus; for wickednesse thou chastisidest [chastiside AH.] a man. Thou madest to flowen awei as an ireyne his soule; nerthelatere veynli is dis|turbid [distourblid H.] eche man. [verse 13] Ful out here myn orisoun, Lord, and my lowe preȝing; with eris perceyue my teris. [verse 14] Ne be thou stille, for a comeling I am anent thee; and a pilgrim as alle my fadris. [verse 15] Forȝif to me, that I be refreshed, befor that I go awei; and I shal be no more.
