that me thei shulden loouen, thei bac|biten [bacbiteden AEH.] to me; I forsothe preȝede. [verse 5] And thei setten [settiden AH.] aȝen me euelis for goodis; and hate for my louyng. [verse 6] Sett vp on hym a synere; and the deuell stonde at his riȝt side. [verse 7] Whan he is demed, go he out con|dempned; and his orisoun be maad in to synne. [verse 8] His daȝis be thei maad fewe; and an other take his bishopriche. [verse 9] His sonus be thei maad faderles; and his wif a widewe. [verse 10] Wagerende be [be thei A.] translatid his sones, and begge thei; and be they cast out of ther wonyngus. [verse 11] Enserche the vsurer al the substaunce of hym [hem C pr. m.] ; and alienus take thei awei his trauailis. [verse 12] Be ther not to hym an helpere; ne be ther that haue mercy to his moderles childer. [verse 13] His sones be thei maad in to deth; in o ieneracioun be don awei his name. [verse 14] In to mynde turne aȝeen the wickidnesse of his fadris in the siȝte of the Lord; and the synne of his moder be not don awei. [verse 15] Be thei maad aȝen the Lord euermor, and pershe awei fro the erthe the mynde of [verse 16] hem; for thi that he hath not recordid to do mercy. [verse 17] And he [Om. E.] pursuede an helpeles man and a beggere; and to slen the sory in herte of synne [his synne E pr. m.] . [verse 18] And he loouede curs|ing, and it shal come to hym; and he wolde not blissing, and it shal be longid awey fro hym. And he cladde [clothede AEH.] cursing as clothing, and it wente in as water in to his innermor partis; and as oile in hys bones. [verse 19] Be it maad to hym as clothing, with the [Om. AEH.] whiche he is couered; and as a girdil, with the [Om. AEH.] whiche he is euermor gird beforn. [verse 20] This the werc of hem that bacbiten to me anent the Lord; and that speken euelis aȝen my soule. [verse 21] And thou, Lord, Lord [Om. C.] , do with me for thi name; for swete is thi mercy. [verse 22] Deliuere me, for nedi and a pore man I am; and myn herte is al disturbid with inne me. [verse 23] As shadewe, whan it bowith doun, I am taken awei; and am shaken out as lo|custis.

[verse 24] My knes ben feblid of fasting; and my flesh is `chaungid to betere [gretly chaungid E pr. m.] for oile. [verse 25] And I am maad repref to them; thei seȝen me, and moueden ther hedis. [verse 26] Help me, Lord my God; mac me saf aftir thi mercy. [verse 27] And thei shul wite, for this is thin hond; and thou, Lord, hast `maad it [don these thingis E pr. m.] . [verse 28] They shul curse, and thou shalt blesse, that rijsen aȝen me, be thei confoundid; thi seruaunt forsothe shal gladen. [verse 29] Be thei clad [clothid AEH.] with shame, that bacbiten to me; and be thei couered as with a double mantil with ther confusion. [verse 30] I shal knouleche to the Lord ful myche in my mouth; and in the myddel of manye I shal preisen hym. [verse 31] That stod neȝh fro the riȝt parties of the pore; that he make saf fro pursueris my soule.
