[verse 1] APOCALIPS [that is, reuelacioun, ether shewing K marg.] of Jhesu Crist, which God ȝaf to hym to make open to hise ser|uauntis, whiche thingis it bihoueth to be maad soone. And he signyfiede, sending bi his aungel to [Om. k pr. m.] his seruaunt Joon, [verse 2] whiche bar witnessing to the word of God, and witnessing of Jhesu Crist, in these thingis, what euer thingis he say. [verse 3] Blessid is he that redith, and he that herith the wordis of this prophecie, and kepith tho thingis that ben writun in it; for the tyme is niȝ. [verse 4] Joon [I Joon h.] to [to the xho.] seuene chirchis, that ben in Asie, grace and pees

to ȝou, of him that is, and that was, and that is to comynge; and of the seuene spiritis, that ben in the siȝt of his trone; [verse 5] and of Jhesu Crist, that is a feithful witnesse, the firste bigetun [the firste bi|geten; that is, the first among hem that risen aȝen fro dede men to vndeed|ly and blisful lijf. Amen. [verse 7] Lo! he cometh with clowdis, and ech iȝe schal se hym, and thei that prickiden [ether crucifieden K marg.] hym; and alle the kynredis [ether lynagis K marg.] of the [Om. Ca sec. m. h.] erthe schulen be|weile hem silf on hym. [verse 8] Ȝhe, Amen! Y am alpha and oo, the bigynnyng and the ende, seith the Lord God, that is, and that was, and that is to comynge, al|myȝti. [verse 9] I, Joon, ȝoure brothir, and parte|ner in tribulacioun, and kingdom, and pacience in Crist Jhesu, was in an ile, that is clepid Pathmos, for the word of God, and for the witnessyng of Jhesu. [verse 10] Y was in spirit in the Lordis dai, and Y herde bihynde me a greet vois, as of a [Om. k pr. m.] [verse 11] trumpe, seiynge to me, Write thou in a book that [the O.] thing that thou seest, and sende to the seuene chirchis that ben in Asie; to Ephesus, to Smyrma, and [Om. E.] to Pergamus, and to [Om. E.] Tiatira, and to Sardis, and to Filadelfia, and to Loadicia [Laodicia E et alii, αβ.] . [verse 12] And Y turnede, that Y schulde se the vois that spak with me; and Y turnede, and [verse 13] Y [Om. X.] say seuene candelstikis of gold, and in the myddil of the [Om. g.] seuene goldun can|delstikis oon lijk to [Om. gk pr. m. O.] the sone of man, clothid with a long garnement [garment A pr. m. ether an awbe K marg.] , and gird at the tetis with a goldun girdil. [verse 14] And the heed of hym and his heeris weren whijt, as whijt wolle [as wolle a.] , and as snow; and

[verse 15] the iȝen of hym as flawme of fier, and hise feet lijk to latoun [ether dross of gold K marg.] , as in a bren|nynge chymney; and the vois of hym as the vois of many watris. [verse 16] And he hadde in his riȝt hoond seuene sterris, and a swerd scharp on euer ethir side wente out of his mouth; and his face as the sunne schyneth in his virtu. [verse 17] And whanne Y hadde seyn hym, Y felde doun at hise feet, as deed. And he puttide his riȝt hond on me, and seide, Nyle thou drede; Y am the firste and the laste; [verse 18] and Y am alyue, and Y was deed; and lo! Y am lyuynge in to worldis of worldis, and Y haue the keyes of deth and of helle. [verse 19] Therfor write thou whiche thingis thou hast seyn, and whiche ben, and whiche it bihoueth to be don aftir these thingis. [verse 20] The sacrament of the seuene sterris, which thou seiȝest in my riȝt hond, and the seuene goldun candel|stikis; the seuene sterris ben aungels [ben aungels; that is, bi|schopis of the chirches; an aungel, which is interpretid sent, is here the name of bischop office, and in ij. c^o. of Malachi a prest is clepid an aungel of the Lord.
