[verse 1] But a man, Anany bi name, with Sa|fira, [verse 2] his wijf, seelde a feeld, and defraud|ide [defraudide; alle men of that felauschip bi|hiȝten to lyue without propir good, either synguler to a man himself. He liede to God, in appropering to himself a part of the prijs; he liede also to men, in seyinge that it was the prijs of the feeld. was gilty; sche and hir housbonde acordiden in maner of spek|ing and of an|swering of this silling, and to defraude of the prijs of the feeld; for whi to holde to him|self aloone that that is comune and preuely, is to defraude the comunte. V. dwelte not to thee; that is, bifore the auow. and it seeld, etc.; as if he seide, thou myȝtest sille, either hoolde stille the feeld, and do thi wille of the prijs, Lire here. herte? Thou hast not lied to men [not lyed to men oonly, but also to God. seelden the feeld for so myche pris, and no more, as thin husbonde brouȝte in the comunte. ȝhe, for so myche; and no more. Lire here. v.] , but to God. [verse 5] Anany herde these wordis, and felde doun, and was deed. And greet drede was maad on alle that herden. [verse 6] And ȝonge men risen [residen C.] , and mouyden hym awei, and baren hym out, and biri|eden. [verse 7] And ther was maad as [Om. K pr. m.] a space of thre ouris, and his wijf knewe not that thing that was don, and entride [sche entride k.] . [verse 8] And Petre answerde to hir, Womman, seie to me, whether ȝe seelden the feeld for so mych? And sche seide, Ȝhe, for so mych. [verse 9] And Petre seide to hyr, What bifelde [ether cam to gidere K marg.] to ȝou, to tempte the spirit of the Lord? Lo! the feet of hem that han birieden thin hosebonde ben at the dore, and thei schulen bere thee out. [verse 10] Anoon sche felde doun at hise feet, and diede. And the ȝonge men entriden, and founden hir deed, and thei baren hir out, and birieden to hir hosebonde. [verse 11] And greet drede was maad in al the chirche, and in [Om. R pr. m.] to [Om. c.] alle that herden these thingis. [verse 12] And bi the [Om. R pr. m.] hoondis of the [Om. c.] apostlis signes and many wondris weren maad in the puple. And alle weren of oon acord in the porche of Salomon. [verse 13] But no man of othere durste ioyne hymsilf with hem, but the puple magnyfiede hem. [verse 14] And the multitude of men and of wym|men bileuynge in the Lord was more [verse 15] encreessid, so that thei brouȝten out sike men in to stretis, and leiden in litle beddis and couchis, that whanne Petre cam, nameli the schadew of hym schulde schadewe ech of hem, and thei schulden be delyuerid fro her syknessis [sijknesse A.] . And the prince of preestis cam, and thei that weren with him, and clepiden togidre the counsel, and alle the eldre men of the children of Israel; and [and thei I.] senten to [in to gk pr. m.] the [Om. gk.] prisoun, that thei schulden be brouȝt forth. [verse 22] And whanne the mynystris camen, founden [and founden IQUgkoα. thei founden K sec. m. MRX.] hem not, and for the prisoun was openyd, thei [verse 23] turneden aȝen, and teelden, and seiden, We founden [haue founden R pr. m.] the prisoun schit with al diligence [Om. g pr. m. his wards g sec. m. hise diligense k.] , and the keperis stondynge at the ȝatis; but we opneden, and founden no man ther ynne. [verse 24] And as the maies|tratis of the temple, and the princis [prince R.] of preestis herden these wordis, thei dout|iden of hem, what was don. [verse 25] But a man cam, and teelde to hem, For lo! tho men whiche ȝe han put in to prisoun, ben in the temple, and stonden, and techen the puple. [verse 26] Thanne the magistrat [magestrates R pr. m. k.] wente with the mynystris, and brouȝte hem with out violence [ether distresse K marg.] ; for thei dredden the puple, lest thei schulden be stonyd. [verse 27] And whanne thei hadden brouȝt hem, thei settiden [setten I.] hem in the counsel; and the [verse 28] princes [prince A pr. m. Gamalihel; Gamaliel, as the Glose seith, was a disciple of apostlis; na|theles preuy, that he schulde distroie the worste coun|ceils of Jewis. a Farise; in this, that he bi|leeuede the ris|ing aȝen, and a spirit, and an aungel, but not in suyinge the malice of Fari|sees. comaund|ide the men; that is, the po|stlis. Ve. that the sentence ȝouen for hem, ȝhe, in her ab|sence, schulde be more speed|ful. V. departe ȝee fro these men; that is, fro her perse|cuscioun. if this counceil is of men; that is, if the tech|ing of hem is feyned of men. [verse 34] But a man roos in the counsel, a Farise, Ga|maliel bi name, a doctour of the lawe, a worschipful man to al the puple, and comaundide the men to be put without forth for a while. [verse 35] And he seide to hem, Ȝe men of Israel, take tent to ȝou silf on these men, what ȝe schulen do. [verse 36] For bi|fore these daies Teodas, that seide hym silf to be sum man, to whom a noumbre of men consentiden [concentide RC.] , aboute foure hun|drid; which was slayn, and alle that bi|leueden to hym, weren [was R.] disparplit, and brouȝt to nouȝt. [verse 37] Aftir this, Judas of Galilee was in the daies of professioun, and turnyde awei the puple aftir hym; and alle hou manye euere consentiden to hym, weren scatered, and he perisch|ide. [verse 38] And now therfor Y seie to ȝou, departe ȝe [Om. [verse 41] And thei wenten ioiynge [wenten ioy|inge, etc.; so that thei suffriden aduersitees not oonly paciently but also ioifully, and in this stondith the moost excellent degre of goostly strengthe. ceesiden not, etc.; in nothing thei weren aferd bi betyingis, but more hertid to preche Crist stronglyere.
