[verse 1] Therfor Y biseche first of alle thingis, that bisechingis, preieris, axyngis, do|yngis [doinge KRO.] of thankyngis, ben maad for alle [verse 2] men, for kingis and alle that ben set in hiȝnesse, that we leden a quyet and a pesible lijf, in al pite and chastite. [verse 3] For this thing is good and acceptid bifor [verse 4] God, oure sauyour, that wole that alle men ben maad saaf, and that thei come to the knowyng of treuthe. [verse 5] For o God and a [O Xa.] mediatour is of God and of men, a man Crist Jhesus, that ȝaf him silf [verse 6]

redempcioun for alle men. Whos witness|ing [verse 7] is confermyd in his tymes; in which Y am set a prechour and an [Om. alii.] apostle. For Y seye treuthe, and Y lie not, that am a techere of hethene men in feith and in treuthe. [verse 8] Therfor Y wole, that men preye in al place, liftinge vp clene hondis with outen wraththe and strijf. [verse 9] Also wymmen in couenable abite, with schamefastnesse and sobrenesse araiynge hem silf, not in writhun heeris, ethir in gold, ethir [or R.] peerlis, ethir [or ER.] preciouse cloth; [verse 10] but that that bicometh wymmen, biheet|inge pite bi good werkis. [verse 11] A womman lerne in silence, with al subieccioun. [verse 12] But Y suffre not a [to a A pr. m.] womman to teche, nether to haue lordschip on the hosebonde, but to be in silence. [verse 13] For Adam was first [verse 14] formed, aftirward Eue; and Adam [in bileuinge that was sothe, that the deuel seide, ȝe schu|len be as god|dis. Lire and the Glose re|hersing Austyn. ve.] was not disseyued, but the womman was dis|seyued, in breking of the lawe. [verse 15] But sche schal be sauyd bi generacioun of children, if sche dwellith [dwelle R.] perfitli in feith, and loue, and hoolynesse, with sobre|nesse.
