CAP. IV.
[verse 1] Therfor Y boundun for the Lord bi|seche ȝou, that ȝe walke worthili in the [verse 2] clepyng, in which ȝe ben clepid, with al mekenesse and myldenesse, with pacience [verse 3] supportinge ech other in charite, bisi to kepe vnyte of spirit in the boond of pees. [verse 4] O bodi and o spirit, as ȝe ben [verse 5] clepid in oon hope of ȝoure cleping; o [verse 6] Lord, o feith, o baptym, o God and fa|dir [the fadir k.] of alle [alle thingis k.] , which is aboue alle men, and bi alle thingis, and in vs alle. [verse 7] But to ech of vs grace is ȝouun bi the me|sure [verse 8] of the ȝyuyng of Crist; for which thing he seith, He stiynge an hiȝ, ledde caitifte [that is, men holden pri|soners of the deuel, Crist took and ra|uischide fro the deuel, and made soget vndir the esy ȝoc of Crist, and brouȝte hem fro helle to heuene. The Glose here re|hersinge Aus|tyn. ve.] caitif, he ȝaf ȝiftis to men. [verse 9] But what is it, that he stiede vp, no [Om. b.] but that also he cam doun first in to the lowere partis of the erthe? [verse 10] He it is that cam doun, and that stiede on alle he|uenes, that he schulde fille alle thingis. [verse 11] And he ȝaf summe apostlis, summe pro|phetis, othere euangelistis, othere scheep|herdis [verse 12] and techeris, to the ful endyng
