[verse 3] So ȝe ben foolis, that whanne ȝe han bigunne in spirit, ȝe ben endid in fleisch. [verse 4] So grete thingis ȝe han suffrid without cause, if [and if k pr. m.] it be withoute cause. [verse 5] He that ȝyueth to ȝou spirit, and worchith vertues in ȝou, whether of werkis of the lawe, or of hering of bileue? [verse 6] As it is writun, Abraham bileuede to God, and it was rettid [arettid Khk.] to hym to riȝtfulnesse [riȝtwisnesse EKab.] . [verse 7] And therfor knowe ȝe, that [Om. [verse 10] For alle that ben of the [Om. g.] werkis of the [Om. CEIQegα.] lawe, ben vndur curse; for it is writun, Ech man is cursid, that abidith not in alle thingis that ben writun in the book of the lawe, to do tho thingis. [verse 11] And that no man is iustified in the lawe bifor God, it is opyn, for a riȝtful man lyueth of bileue. [verse 12] But the lawe is not of bileue, but he that doith tho thingis of the lawe, schal lyue in hem. [verse 13] But Crist aȝenbouȝte us fro the curse of the lawe, and was maad acursid [cursid I.] [that is, suf|fride for us the peyne of deth. Lire and the Glose rehers|ing Jerom. ve.] for vs; for it is writun, Ech man is cursid that hangith in the tre; [verse 14] that among the hethene the blessyng of Abraham were maad in `Crist Jhesu [Jhesu Crist h.] , that we vndurfonge the biheeste of spirit thoruȝ bileue. [verse 15] Britheren, Y seie aftir man, no man dispisith the testament of a [Om. R.] man that is confermed, or ordeyneth [ordeyned CEQR acegkα.] aboue. [verse 16] The biheestis weren seid to A|braham and to his seed; he seith not, In seedis, as in many, but as in oon, And to thi seed, that is, Crist [in Crist R.] . [verse 17] But Y seie, this testament is confermed of God; the lawe that was maad after foure hundrid and thritti ȝeer, makith [ne makith K pr. m. bc pr. m.] not the testament veyn to auoide awei the biheest. [verse 18] For if eritage were of the lawe, it were not now [Om. EI pr. m. g.] of biheeste. But God grauntide to Abraham thoruȝ biheest. What thanne the lawe [that is, Wher|to is the lawe profitable? Lire here. ve.] ? [verse 19] It was sett for trespassing [ether trespassoures K marg.] , to [til to CKMQRUabcegkoαβ. til EIh.] the seed [that is, Crist K marg.] come [cam Echβ. came IR.] , to whom he hadde maad his [the E. For if the lawe were ȝouun, that myȝte quikene, verili were riȝtfulnesse of lawe. [verse 22] But scrip|ture [the scripture Egk.] hath concludid alle thingis vndir synne [the synne Q pr. m.] , that the biheeste of the feith of Jhesu Crist were ȝyuen to hem that bileuen. [verse 23] And tofor that bileue cam, thei weren kept vndur the lawe, enclosid in to that bileue that was to be schewid. [verse 24] And so the lawe was oure vndirmaister in Crist, that we ben iustified of bileue. [verse 25] But aftir that bileue cam, we ben not now vndur the vndurmaistir. [verse 26] For alle ȝe ben the children of God thoruȝ the bi|leue of Jhesu Crist. [verse 27] For alle ȝe that ben baptisid, ben clothid with Crist. [verse 28] Ther is no Jewe, ne [no RUac.] Greke, ne [no KMRUXaco.] bond man, ne [no MRUXah sec. m.] fre man, ne [no KMRUXach sec. m. O.] male, ne [no MRUXach sec. m.] female; for alle ȝe ben oon [of oon R pr. m.] in `Jhesu Crist [Crist Jhesu b.] . [verse 29] And if ȝe ben oon in `Jhesu Crist [Crist Jhesu R.] , thanne ȝe ben the seed of Abraham, and eiris bi [of b sec. m.] biheest.
