[verse 1] Poul, the seruaunt of Jhesu Crist [Om. c.] , clepid [Om. I.] an [Om. K sec. m.] apostle, departid in to the [verse 2] gospel of God; which he hadde bihote tofore [bifore a.] bi [to k.] his [Om. T.] profetis in holi scripturis [verse 3] of his sone, which is maad to hym of the [verse 4] seed of Dauid bi the flesch, and [as RT.] he was bifor ordeyned the sone of God in vertu, bi the spirit of halewyng of the aȝen|risyng of deed men, of Jhesu Crist oure [verse 5] Lord, bi whom we han resseyued grace and the office of apostle, to obeie to the [verse 6] feith in alle folkis for his name, among whiche ȝe ben also clepid of Jhesu [verse 7] Crist, to alle that ben at Rome, derlyngis of God, and clepid hooli, grace to ȝou, and pees of God oure fadir, and of the Lord Jhesu Crist. [verse 8] First Y do thank|yngis to my God, bi Jhesu Crist, for alle ȝou, for ȝoure feith is schewid in [in to Q.] al the world. [verse 9] For God is a witnesse to me, to whom Y serue in my spirit, in the gospel [verse 10] of his sone, that with outen ceessyng Y make mynde of ȝou euere in my preieris, and biseche, if in ony maner sum tyme Y haue a [Om. S.] spedi weie in the wille of God to come to ȝou. [verse 11] For Y desire to se ȝou, to parten sumwhat [sumwhat to ȝou k.] of spiritual [verse 12] grace, that ȝe be confermyd, that is, to be coumfortid togidere in ȝou, bi feith that is bothe ȝoure and myn togidere. [verse 15] men, Y am dettour, so that that is in me is redi to preche the gospel also to ȝou that ben at Rome. [verse 16] For [Forsothe K sec. m.] Y schame not the gospel, for it is the vertu of God in to heelthe to ech man that bileueth, to the Jew first, and to the Greke. [verse 17] For the riȝtwisnesse of God is schewid in it, [verse 18] of feith in to feith, as it is writun, For a iust man lyueth of feith. For the wraththe of God is schewid fro heuene on al vn|pite and wickidnesse of tho men, that withholden the treuthe of God in vnriȝt|wisnes [vnriȝtfulnesse S.] . [verse 19] For that thing of God that is knowun, is schewid to hem, for God hath schewid to hem. [verse 20] For the vnuysible thingis of hym, that ben vndurstondun, ben biholdun of the creature [that is, of man. Lyre here. e.] of the world, bi tho thingis that ben maad, ȝhe, and the euerlastynge vertu of hym and the godhed, so that thei mowe not be excusid. [verse 21] For whanne thei hadden knowe God, thei glorifieden hym not as God, nether diden thankyngis; but thei va|nyschiden in her thouȝts, and the vnwise herte of hem was derkid. [verse 22] For thei `sei|ynge that [seynge that EKb pr. m. gk pr. m. seiden S.] hem silf weren wise, thei weren maad foolis. [verse 23] And thei chaungiden the glorie of `God vncorruptible [vncorruptible God R pr. m.] [ether that mai not dye. K. that is, that may not die, ne be peirid. S.] the creatoure, that is blessid in to worldis of worldis. Amen. [verse 26] Therfor God bitook hem in to passiouns of schenschipe. For the wymmen of hem chaungiden the

[verse 27] Also the men forsoken the kyndli vss of womman, and brenneden in her desiris togidere, and men in to men wrouȝten filthehed, and resseyueden in to hem silf the meede that bihofte of her errour. [verse 28] And as thei preueden that thei hadden not God in knowyng, God [so God S sec. m.] bi|took hem in to a repreuable wit, that thei do tho thingis that ben not couen|able; [verse 29] that thei ben fulfillid with al wick|idnesse, malice, fornycacioun, coueitise, weiwardnesse, ful [and ful S.] of enuye, mansleyngis, strijf, gile, yuel wille, preuy bacbiteris [backbiteris, that is, soweris of discord. Lyre here. e.] , [verse 30] detractouris, hateful to God, debateris [ether wrong despisers. K.] , proude, and hiȝ ouer mesure, fynderis of yuele thingis, not obeschynge [obedient R.] to fadir [verse 31] and modir, vnwise, vnmanerli [ether vnco|uenable in ber|yng without|forth. K.] , with|outen loue, withouten boond of pees, with outen merci. [verse 32] The whiche whanne thei hadden knowe the riȝtwisnesse of God, vndirstoden [vnderstonden CSaek.] not, that thei that don siche thingis ben worthi the deth, not oneli thei that don tho [suche a.] thingis, but also thei that consenten to the doeris.
