[verse 1] And the Farisees and the [Om. IK.] Saducees camen to hym temptynge, and [and thei Iα.] preieden [praijnge i.] hym to schewe hem a tokene fro heuene. [verse 2] And he answeride, and seide to hem, Whanne the euentid is [was A.] comun, ȝe seien, [verse 3] It schal be clere, for heuene is rodi; and the morewtid, To dai tempest, for heuene schyneth heueli. [verse 4] Thanne ȝe kunne deme the face of heuene, but ȝe moun not wite the tokenes of tymes. An yuel genera|cioun and auoutresse sekith a tokene; and a tokene schal not be ȝouun to it, but the tokene of Jonas, the profete. And whanne he hadde left hem, he wente forth. [verse 5] And whanne his disciplis camen ouer the see, thei forȝaten to take looues. [verse 6] And he seide to hem, Biholde ȝe, and be [beth EI. be ȝe Q.] war of the [Om. EIRαβ.] soure dowȝ of Farisees and [and of Ibg.] Sadu|cees. [verse 7] And thei thouȝten among hem, and seiden, For we han not take looues. [verse 8] But Jhesus witynge seide to hem, What thenken ȝe among ȝou of litel feith, for ȝe han not [not takun C.] looues? [verse 9] Ȝit `vndurstonden not ȝe [ȝe vndurst. not KQSeghi.] , nether han mynde of fyue looues in to fyue thousynde of men, and hou [verse 10] many cofyns ȝe token? nether of seuene looues in to foure thousynde of men, and hou many lepis ȝe token? [verse 11] Whi vndur|stonden ȝe not, for Y seide not to ȝou of breed, Be ȝe war of the sourdowȝ of Farisees and of Saducees? [verse 12] Thanne thei vndurstooden, that he seide not to be war of sourdowȝ of looues, but of the techyng of Farisees and Saducees [the Saduceis S. of Saducees ek.] . [verse 13] And Jhesus cam in to the parties of Cesarie of Filip, and axide hise disciplis, and

seide, Whom seien men to be mannus sone? [verse 14] And thei seiden, Summe Joon Baptist; othere Elie; and othere Jeremye, or oon of the prophetis. [verse 15] Jhesus seide to hem, But whom seien ȝe me to be? [verse 16] Sy|mount Petre answeride, and seide, Thou art Crist, the sone of God lyuynge. [verse 17] Jhe|sus answeride, and seide to him, Blessid art thou, Symount Bariona [that is, sone of a culuer C text K marg. X marg. β text.] ; for fleisch and blood schewide not to thee, but my fadir that is in heuenes. [verse 18] And Y seie to thee, that [Om. eα.] thou art Petre, and on this stoon Y schal bilde my chirche, and the ȝatis of helle schulen not haue miȝt [power R pr. m.] aȝens it. [verse 19] And to thee Y shal ȝyue the keies of the kingdom of heuenes; and what euer thou shalt bynde on erthe, schal be boundun also in heuenes; and what euer thou schalt vnbynde on erthe, schal be vnbounden also in heuenes. [verse 20] Thanne he comaundide to hise disciplis, that thei schulden seie to no man, that he was Crist [Jhesu Crist I sec. m.] . [verse 21] Fro that tyme Jhesus bigan to [for to A pr. m. CI.] sclaundre to me; for thou sauerist not tho thingis that ben of God, but tho thingis that ben of men. [verse 24] Thanne Jhesus seide to his disciplis, If ony man wole come after me, denye he hym silf, and take his cros, and sue [swe he Khik.] me; [verse 25] for he that wole make his lijf saaf, shal leese it; and he that schal leese his lijf

for me, schal fynde it. [verse 26] For what profit|ith it to a man, if he wynne al the world, and suffre peiryng [peirement R.] of his [Om. hi.] soule? or [ether C.] what chaunging schal a man ȝyue for his soule? [verse 27] For mannes sone schal come in [in the C.] glorie of his fader, with his aungels, and thanne he schal ȝelde to ech [euery plures.] man after [vp C.] his werkis. [verse 28] Treuli Y seie to ȝou, `ther ben summe [sum men ben C.] of hem [ȝou C.] that stonden here, whiche schulen not taste deth, til thei seen mannus sone comynge in his kyng|dom.
