[verse 1] In that tyme Jhesus wente bi cornes in the sabot day; and hise disciplis hun|griden, and bigunnen to plucke the [Om. KQSeghi.] eris of corn, and to ete. [verse 2] And Fariseis [the Farisees EIka.] , se|ynge, seiden to hym, Lo! thi disciplis don that thing that is not leueful to hem to do in sabatis. [verse 3] And he seide to hem, Whether [Wher e.] ȝe han not red, what Dauid dide, whanne he hungride, and thei that [verse 4] weren with hym? hou he entride in to the hous of God, and eet looues of proposi|cioun, whiche [the whiche I.] looues it was not leueful to hym to ete, nether to hem that weren with hym, but to prestis aloone? [verse 5] Or whether [wher e.] ȝe han not red in the lawe, that in sabotis [the sabotis CQe.] prestis in the temple defoulen [defouliden b.] the sabotis, and thei ben with oute blame? [verse 6] And Y seie to ȝou, that here is a [Om. CR pr. m. b.] gretter than the temple. [verse 7] And if ȝe wisten, what it is, Y wole merci, and not sacrifice, ȝe schulden neuer haue condempned inno|centis. [verse 8] For mannus sone is lord, ȝhe, of the sabat. [verse 9] And whanne he passide fro thennus, he cam in to the synagoge of hem. [verse 10] And lo! a man that hadde a drye hoond. And thei axiden hym, and seiden, Whether [Wher plures.] it be leueful to hele in the sabot? that thei schulden [wolden I.] acuse hym. [verse 11] And he seide to hem, What man of ȝou schal [schal ther I.] be, that hath o [a EIC.] scheep, and if it falle in to a [the C.] diche in the sabotis, whe|ther [wher plures.] he shal not holde, and lifte it vp? [verse 12] How myche more is a man better than a scheep? Therfor it is leueful to do good in the [Om. CEghi.] sabatis. [verse 13] Thanne he seide to the man, Stretche forth thin hoond. wenten out, and maden a counsel aȝens hym, hou thei schulden distrie hym. [verse 15] And Jhesus knewe it, and wente awei fro thennus; and many sueden hym, and he helide hem alle. [verse 16] And he comaundide to hem, that thei schulden not make hym [verse 17] knowun; that that thing were fulfillid, that was seid by Isaie, the prophete, sei|ynge, [verse 18] Lo! my child, whom Y haue chosun, my derling, in whom it hath wel plesid to my soule; Y shal put my spirit on him, and he shal telle dom to hethen men. [verse 19] He shal not stryue, ne crye, nethir ony man shal here his voice in stretis. [verse 20] A brisid rehed he shal not breke, and he schal not quenche smokynge flax, til he [verse 21] caste out doom to victorie; and hethene men schulen hope in his name. [verse 22] Thanne a man blynde and doumbe, that hadde a feend, was brouȝt to hym; and he helide hym, so that he spak, and say. [verse 23] And al the puple wondride, and seide, Whether [Wher CIeb.] this be the sone of Dauid? [verse 24] But the Fa|risees herden, and seiden, He this casteth not out [Om. S.] feendis, but in Belsabub, prince of feendis. [verse 25] And Jhesus, witynge her thouȝtis, seide to hem, Eche kingdom departid aȝens it silf, schal be desolatid [desolate R.] , and eche cite, or hous, departid aȝens it self, schal not stonde. [verse 26] And if Satanas castith out Satanas, he is departid aȝens him silf; therfor hou schal his [this AC.] kingdom stonde? [verse 27] And if Y in Belsabub caste out deuelis [fendis C.] , in `whom ȝoure sones casten out [whos myȝt casten out ȝoure sones Ia.] ? Therfor thei schulen be ȝoure domes men. [verse 28] But if Y in the [Om. C.] Spirit of God caste out feendis, thanne the kyngdom of God is comen in to ȝou. [verse 29] Ethir hou may ony man entre in to the hous of a stronge man, and take awey hise vesselis, but `he first [first he R.] bynde the stronge man, and thanne

he schal spuyle his hous? [verse 30] He that is not with me, is aȝens me; and he that ga|derith not togidere with me, scaterith abrood. [verse 31] Therfor I seie to ȝou, al synne and blasfemye shal be forȝouun to men, but `the spirit of blasfemye [blasfemye of the spirit Qe.] shal not be forȝouun. [verse 32] And who euere seith a word aȝens mannus sone, it shal be forȝouun to him; but who that seieth a word aȝens the Hooli Goost, it shal not be forȝouun to hym, nether in this world, ne in `the tothir [that othir CIQ.] . [verse 33] Ethir make ȝe the tree good, and his fruyt good; ether make ȝe the tree yuel and his fruyt yuel; for a tree is knowun of the [his e.] fruyt. [verse 34] Ȝe generacioun [generaciouns A sec. m. Rkβ.] of eddris [neddris P. addris Q.] , hou moun ȝe speke goode thingis, whanne ȝe ben yuele? [verse 35] A good man bryngith forth good thingis of good tresoure, and an yuel man bring|ith forth yuel thingis of yuel tresoure. [verse 36] And Y seie to ȝou, that of euery idel word, that men speken, thei schulen ȝelde [verse 37] resoun therof in the dai of doom; for of thi wordis thou schalt be iustified, and of thi wordis thou shalt be dampned. [verse 38] Thanne summe of the scribis and [and of S.] Fari|sees [the Farisees CEQS.] answeriden to [Om. S.] hym, and seiden, Mayster, we wolen se a tokne of thee. [verse 39] Which [The whiche I.] answeride, and seide to hem, An yuel kynrede and a spouse brekere sekith a tokene, and a tokene shal not be ȝouun to it, but [no but ek pr. m.] the tokene of Jonas, the pro|phete. [verse 40] For as Jonas was in the wombe of a whal thre daies and thre nyȝtis, so mannus sone shal be in the herte of the [Om. C.] erthe thre daies and thre nyȝtis. Jonas. [verse 42] The queene of the south shal rise in doom with this generacioun, and schal condempne it; for she cam fro the eendis of the [Om. R pr. m.] erthe to here the wisdom of Sa|lomon, and lo! here a gretter than Salo|mon. [verse 43] Whanne an vnclene spirit goith [hath goon S sup. ras.] out fro a man, he goith bi drie places, `and sekith [sekinge K.] rest, and fyndith not. [verse 44] Thanne he seith, Y shal turne aȝen in to myn hous, fro whannys Y wente out. And he cometh, and fyndith it voide, and clensid with besyms, and maad faire. [verse 45] Thanne he goith, and takith with him seuene othere spiritis [Om. e.] worse than hym silf; and thei entren, and dwellen there. And the laste thingis of that man ben maad worse than the formere. So it shal be to this worste generacioun. [verse 46] Ȝit whil he spak to the puple, lo! his modir and his brethe|ren stoden [stonden CU.] with outeforth, sekynge to speke to [with EIQ sec. m. S ikαβ.] hym. [verse 47] And a man seide to hym, Lo! thi modir and thi britheren stonden with outeforth, sekynge thee. [verse 48] He [And he QS sup. ras.] answeride to the man, that spak to hym, and seide, Who is my modir? and who ben my britheren? [verse 49] And he helde forth his hoond in to hise disciplis, and seide, Lo! my modir and my bretheren; [verse 50] for who euer doith the wille of my fadir that is in heuenes, he is my brothir, and sistir, and modir.
