[verse 1] And now, A! ȝe preestis, this maunde|ment is to ȝou. [verse 2] If ȝe wolen here, and if
ȝe `wolen not putte [nylen sette R.] on the herte, that ȝe ȝyue glorie to my name, seith the Lord of oostis, Y schal sende nedynesse in to ȝou, and Y schal curse to [Om. R.] ȝoure blessyngis; and Y schal curse hem [tho R.] , for ȝe han not putte [set R.] on the herte. [verse 3] Lo! Y schal caste [caste forth R.] to ȝou the arm, and Y schal scatere on ȝoure cheere [face R.] the drit of ȝoure solempny|tees, and it schal take ȝou with it. [verse 4] And ȝe schulen wite, that Y sente to ȝou this maundement, that my couenaunt were with Leuy [ȝou and Leuy R sec. m.] , seith the Lord of oostis. [verse 5] My couenaunt was with hym of lijf and pees [of pees R.] ; and Y ȝaf to hym a [my R.] drede, and he dredde me, and he dredde of [Om. CEHPS.] face [the face CEHIKPRSUX pr. m.] of my name. [verse 6] The lawe of trewthe was in his mouth, and wickidnesse was not foundun in hise lippis; in pees and in [Om. R.] equite he walkide [wente R.] with me, and he turnede awei many men fro wickidnesse. [verse 7] For the lippis of a [Om. CEFGHMNPQSUX pr. m. the K.] prest kepen science [kunnyng CER. science, ether [or G] kunnynge FGHIKMNSX.] , and thei schulen aȝen seke the lawe of `the mouth of hym [his mouthe R.] , for he is an [the R.] aungel of the Lord of oostes. [verse 8] But ȝe wenten [ȝeden R.] awei fro the weie, and sclaundren [sclaundriden CEFGHKMNPQRSUX.] ful many men [Om. N.] in the lawe; ȝe maden voide the couenaunt of Leuy, seith the Lord of oostis. [verse 9] For which [the whiche I.] thing and Y ȝaf ȝou [to you C.] worthi to be dispisid [contemptible, ether worthi [for FGHM] to be dispisid CFGIKMQSUX. contemptible ENP. dispisable R.] , and bowen [lowed F. bowiden I. lowȝ R.] to alle puplis, as ȝe kepten not my weies, and token a face in the lawe. [verse 10] Whether not o fadir is of alle ȝou? whether [whether not R.] o [Om. E.] God made not [Om. AR.] of nouȝt ȝou? Whi therfor ech of ȝou dispisith his bro|ther, and defoulith the couenaunt of ȝoure fadris? [verse 11] Judas trespasside, and abhomy|nacioun is maad [done R.] in Israel, and in [Om. N.] Jeru|salem; for Judas defoulide the halewyng of the Lord, which he louyde, and he hadde the douȝter of an alien god. [verse 12] The Lord schal [Om. R.] distrie the man that dide [schal do R.]
this thing, the maister and disciple, fro the tabernacle of Jacob, and him that offrith a ȝifte to the Lord of oostis. [verse 13] And eftsoone ȝe diden this thing; ȝe hiliden with teeris the auter of the Lord, with wepyng and mourenyng [weiling R.] ; so that Y bi|holde no more to sacrifice, nether resseyue ony thing plesaunt of ȝoure hond. [verse 14] And ȝe seiden, For what cause? For the Lord witnesside bitwixe thee and the wijf of thi `puberte, that is [Om. U.] , tyme of mariage, which [whom R.] thou dispisidist, and this is thi felowe, and wijf [the wijf R.] of thi couenaunt [couenaunt of pees R.] . [verse 15] Whe|ther oon made not, and residue [the residue IR.] of spirit is his? and what sekith oon, no [not R.] but the seed of God? Therfore kepe ȝe ȝoure spirit, and nyle thou dispise the wijf of [verse 16] thi ȝongthe; whanne thou hatist hir, leue thou hir, seith the Lord God of Israel. Forsothe wickidnesse schal kyuere [hile R.] the closyng [clothe R.] of hym, seith the Lord of oostis; kepe ȝe ȝoure spirit, and nyle ȝe dispise.
