DFGHOPQV.] fyue and fiftithe salm. `In Ebreu thus [Om. ceteri præter U.] , To the [Om. plures.] ouercomyng on the doumb culuer of fer drawing [drawun C.] awei, the comely song of Dauid, whanne [Om. X.] Filisteis [the Filisteis R.] helden [hadden V.] hym in Geth. `In Jeroms translacioun thus, To the ouer|comer for the doumb culuer, for it ȝede awei fer. Dauid meke and symple made [make plures.] this salm, whanne Palesteyns helden hym in Geth [Om. ceteri præter U.] [A glos. Da|uith made this salm whanne he fledde fro the face of Saul, and came to Agis, kyng of Geth; and whanne thei wolden kille Dauith, he feynede him wood, and so he was sauyd. C et alii.] .]

[verse 2] God, haue thou merci on me, for a man hath defoulid me; al dai he impugnyde, and troublide me. [verse 3] Myn enemyes defoul|iden me al dai; for manye fiȝteris weren aȝens me. [verse 4] Of the hiȝnesse of dai Y schal drede; but God Y schal hope in thee. [verse 5] In God Y schal preise my wordis; Y hopide in God, Y schal not drede what thing fleisch [fleisch or man I.] schal do to me. [verse 6] Al dai thei curs|iden my wordis; aȝens me alle her thouȝtis weren in to yuel. [verse 7] Thei schulen dwelle, and schulen [thei schulen I.] hide; thei schulen aspie myn heele. [verse 8] As thei abiden [abideden CFGHIKMOQRUVWXbi. abood ELP.] my lijf, for nouȝt schalt thou make hem saaf; in ire thou schalt breke togidre puplis. [verse 9] God, Y schew|ide my lijf to thee; thou hast set my teeris in thi siȝt. As and in thi biheest, Lord; [verse 10] thanne myn enemyes schulen be turned abak. In what euere dai Y schal inwardli clepe thee; lo! Y haue knowe, that thou art my God. [verse 11] In God Y schal preise a word; in the Lord Y schal preyse a word. Y schal hope in God; Y schal not drede what thing a [Om. I.] man schal do to me. [verse 12] God, thin auowis ben in me; whiche Y schal ȝelde heriyngis [heryinge S.] to thee. [verse 13] For thou hast delyuerid my lijf fro deth, and my feet fro slidyng; that Y pleese bifore God in the liȝt of hem that lyuen.
