[verse 1] I not as cruel schal reise hym; for [Om. I.] who [who sothly I.] may aȝenstonde [withstonde I.] my face? [verse 2] And who `ȝaf to me [hath ȝouen auȝt I.] bifore, that Y ȝelde [ȝeldide it I.] to hym? Alle thingis, that ben vndur heuene, ben myne. [verse 3] Y schal not spare hym for [for his I.] myȝti wordis, and maad faire to biseche [biseche with I.] . [verse 4] Who schal schewe the face of his clothing, and who schal entre in to the myddis of his mouth? [verse 5] Who schal opene the ȝatis of his cheer? ferdfulnesse is bi the cumpas of hise teeth. [verse 6] His bodi is as ȝotun scheldys of bras, and ioyned togidere with scalis ouerleiynge hem silf. [verse 7] Oon is ioyned to another; and sotheli brething goith not thorouȝ tho. [verse 8] Oon schal cleue to anothir, and tho [tho platis I.] holdynge [holdynge togidere I.] hem silf schulen not be departid. [verse 9] His fnesynge [neesyng I.] is as schynynge of fier, and hise iȝen ben as iȝelidis of the morewtid [yȝeliddis of the morewtid; that is, briȝt|nesse. C.] [verse 10] Laumpis [Liȝtis I.] comen forth of his mouth, as trees [brondis I.] of fier, that ben kyndlid. [verse 11] Smoke cometh forth of hise nosethirlis, as of [Om. A pr. m. IS.] a [a boilynge I.] pot set on [upon I.] the fier `and boilynge [Om. I.] . [verse 12] His breeth makith colis to brenne, and flawme goith out of his mouth. [verse 13] Strengthe schal dwelle in his necke, and nedynesse schal go bifor his face. [verse 14] The membris of hise fleischis [fleische I.] ben cleuynge togidere to hem silf; God schal sende floodis aȝens hym [God schal sende floodis aȝenus him; that is, Goddis sentence of dampnacioun of the fend. C.] , and tho schu|len not be borun [borun ouer I.] to an other place.

[verse 15] His herte schal be maad hard [maad hard; the fend is obstynat, and is not bowid to good, bi ony smyting of Goddis ven|iaunce. C.] as a stoon; and it schal be streyned togidere as the [an I.] anefeld [anfeeld, or stithie K.] of a smith. [verse 16] Whanne he schal be takun awei, aungels schulen drede [aungels schulen drede; that is, wondre of Goddis vertu and riȝtful|nesse, in the casting doun, and punysching of the fend, which was doon in parti at the bigynnyng of the fal fro heuene, and schal be endid in the doom to comynge, whanne with sinful men dampned, he schal be cast doun into helle. schulen be purgid; not of vnclennesse, but of igno|raunse, in as myche as bi Goddis reue|laciouns, ether wondurful werkis, holy aungels schulen knowe summe thingis, which they knewen not bifore. Lire here. C.] ; and thei aferd schulen be purgid. [verse 17] Whanne swerd takith hym, it [ther I.] may not stonde [abyde I.] , nethir spere, nether haburioun. [verse 18] For he schal arette irun as chaffis [chaff I.] , and bras as rotun tre. [verse 19] A man archere schal not dryue hym awei; stoonys of a slynge ben turned in to stobil to hym. [verse 20] He schal arette an hamer as stobil; and he schal scorne a florischynge [briȝt schynynge I.] spere. [verse 21] The beemys of the sunne schulen be vndur hym; and he schal strewe to hym silf gold as cley. [verse 22] He schal make the depe [grete S.] se to buyle as a pot; and he schal putte [putte it I.] , as whanne oynementis buylen. [verse 23] A path schal schyne aftir hym; he schal gesse the greet occian [depthe of watir I.] as wexynge eld. [verse 24] No power is [ther is I.] on erthe, that schal be comparisound to hym; which is maad, that he schulde drede noon [no thing I.] . [verse 25] He seeth al hiȝ thing; he is kyng ouer alle the sones of pride.
