[verse 32] In [In his I.] hondis he [God I.] hidith liȝt [In hondis he hidith liȝt; that is, bi the vertu and or|denaunce of God the liȝt of grace and of glorie is hid to summen, as to chosun men; and that this is vndirstondun of goostly liȝt, it is opyn bi this, that sueth. And he tellith of it to his frend; that is, to chosun men, for charite de|partith bitwixe the sones of rewme and of perdicioun. he may stie to it; that is, to the liȝt of glorie, to which a man may come with Goddis help, and bi meedeful werkis; this liȝt of glorie is maad redi onely to loued men; and therfor ech man owith for to drede, lest perauenture he be not of the noumbre of chosun men, for defaute of goode werkis. [verse 11] Whete desirith cloudis, and cloudis spreeden abrood her liȝt. [verse 20] Who schal telle to hym [God I.] , what thingis Y speke? ȝhe, if he spekith, a man schal be deuourid [a man schal be deuourid; that is, schal not mow suffre; as the peple seide to Moises in xxj. c^o. of Exody; ether thus, ȝhe, if a man spekith, it schal be de|uourid; that is, the word schal be deuourid of the greetnesse of mater, as a litil flood is de|uourid of the see. Lire here. C.] . [verse 21] And now men seen not liȝt; the eir schal be maad thicke sudenli in to cloudis, and wynd passynge schal dryue awei tho. [verse 22] Gold schal come fro the north, and [and the I.] ferdful preisyng of God. [verse 23] For [Om. A sec. m. Sothely I.] we moun [mowe I.] not fynde him [Om. A pr. m. BCEHLPUVX. it I.] worthili; he is greet in strengthe, and in doom, and in riȝtfulnesse, and [and he I.] may not be teld out. [verse 24] Therfor men schulen drede hym; and alle men, that semen to hem silf to be wise [and alle men that semen to hem silf to be wise; of thingis bifor seid it is opyn, that He|lyu acordide with Joob in summe thingis, and in othere thingis he took not wel the vn|durstonding of Joob, and so he meddlide ofte dispisingis aȝenus Joob, for whiche Joob nolde answere him, but more be stille, and chees to de|parte himsilf fro chidingis, bi the seying of Paul. Therfor God answeride for Joob, and seide, Who is this man wlap|pinge sentensis, for thouȝ he had seid many trewe thingis of the power and wisdom of God, netheles he seide not clerely, and he meddlide many dispitouse wordis aȝenus Joob. And this Helyu took the stide of determinynge the questioun of Goddis poruy|aunce, and to this de|termynacioun God aloone is sufficient; and therfor God re|preueth his pre|sumpcioun, and seith, Who is this? as if he seide, Helyu is vnsufficient to entremete her|of.
