[verse 1] And greet cry of the puple and of her wyues was maad aȝens her britheren Jewis. [verse 2] And there weren [weren of hem IS.] that seiden, Oure sones and oure douȝtris [douȝtren IS.] ben ful manye; take we wheete for the prijs of hem, and ete we, and lyue. [verse 3] And [Also INS.] there weren that seiden, Sette we [Sette we; to silling ether to lenyng to wed|dis. Lire here. C.] forth [forth to sale I. forth to selle NS.] oure feeldis, and vyneris, and oure howsis, and take we wheete [wheete to ete NS.] in hungur [this hungur INS.] . [verse 5] And now as the fleischis [bodies IS.] [fleischis; that is, as oure britheren in Babiloyne ben in turment, so and we here, and as here children ben seruauntis of hethen men, so oure children ben here boonde to Jewis. IS.] of oure douȝtris [douȝtren ben maad seruauntessis I. douȝtren ben seruauntessis S.] , and we han not wherof thei moun be aȝenbouȝt; and othere men han in possessioun oure feeldis, and oure vyneris. [verse 6] And Y was ful wrooth, whanne Y hadde herde the cry of hem bi these wordis. [verse 7] And myn herte thouȝte with me, and Y blamede the principal men [Om. IS.] and magistratis [mais|tir men IS.] ; and Y seide to hem, Axe [Eche of ȝou axe IS.] ȝe

not vsuris [vseris or encrece S.] , `ech man [Om. IS.] of ȝoure britheren. And Y gaderide togidire a greet cumpeny [verse 8] aȝens hem, and Y seide to hem, As ȝe witen, we [we haue I.] bi oure power aȝenbouȝten [aȝenbouȝt I.] oure britheren Jewis, that weren seeld to he|thene men; and ȝe therfor [now IS.] sillen ȝoure britheren, and schulen we aȝenbie hem [hem of ȝou IS.] ? And thei holden silence, and founden not what thei schulen answere. [verse 9] And Y seide to hem, It is not good thing, which [that IS.] ȝe doon; whi goen ȝe not in the drede of oure God, and repreef be not seid to vs of hethene men, oure enemyes? [verse 10] Bothe Y and my britheren, and my children, han lent to ful many men monei and wheete; in comyn [in comyn; that is, consente we in comyn, that these thingis be not axid aȝen. Lire here. C.] axe we not this aȝen; forȝyue [but forȝyue IS.] we alien money [money or vsure IS.] , which is due to vs [bi couenaunt I. marg. vs bi the graunt of hem that hiȝten it S.] . [verse 11] Ȝelde [And aȝen ȝelde IS.] ȝe to hem to dai her feeldis, and her vyneris, her olyue places, and her housis; but [and IS.] rather ȝyue ȝe for hem bothe [Om. IS.] the hundrid part `of money [Om. BCEFHNPRUVX. of the monei K. of money and O.] of wheete, of wyn, and of oile, which we [ȝe BCISV.] weren wont to [bi vse to S.] take of hem. [verse 12] And thei seiden, We schulen ȝelde [ȝelde tho godis to hem I. ȝelden her goodis to hem S.] , and we schulen axe no thing of hem; and we schulen do so as thou spekist. And Y clepide the preestis, and Y made hem to [Om. I.] swere, that thei schulden do aftir that [this IS.] , that Y hadde [haue IX.] seid. [verse 13] Ferthermore [And ferthermore IS.] Y schook [shoke or made empti S.] my bosum, and Y seide, So God schake awei ech man, `that fillith not this word [Om. IS.] fro his hows, and hise [fro hise IS.] trauels [trauels, that fulfillith not this word IS.] ; and be he schakun awei, and be he maad voide. And al the multitude seide, Amen; and thei herieden God. Therfor [And IS.] the puple dide, as it was seid. [verse 14] Forsothe [Sothly IS.] fro that dai in which the kyng hadde comaundid to me, that Y schulde be duyk in the lond of Juda, fro the twentithe ȝeer `til to [vnto IS.] the two and threttithe ȝeer of Artaxerses kyng, bi [that is bi IS.] twelue ȝeer, Y and my britheren eeten not sustenauncis [the sustenauncis IS.] , that [the whiche I. which S.] weren due to duykis.

[verse 15] But the firste duykis, that weren bifor me, greuyden the puple, and token [thei token I.] of hem in breed, and [Om. N.] in [Om. SX.] wiyn, and in [Om. S.] monei, ech dai fourti siclis; but [and IS.] also her mynistris oppressiden the puple. Forsothe [But IS.] Y dide [verse 16] not so, for the drede of God; but rather Y [I sugettide my self and Y IS.] bildide in the werk of the wal, and Y bouȝte no feeld, and alle my children weren gaderid [gatherid togidre with me IS.] to the [Om. IS.] werk. [verse 17] Also `Jewis and the magistratis of hem [Om. IS.] , an hundrid and fifti men [men [of S] Jewis and maistir men IS.] ; and thei that camen to me fro he|thene men, that ben in oure cumpas, weren [weren etynge I.] in my table. [verse 18] Forsothe [And IS.] bi [Om. I.] ech dai oon [an IS.] oxe was maad redi to me [me in myn houshold IS.] , sixe [and sixe IS.] chosun wetheris, outakun volatils, and withynne ten daies dyuerse [I hadde dyuerse IS.] wynes; and Y [Om. S.] ȝaf many othere thingis [thingis to diuers men IS.] ; ferther|more and Y axide not the sustenauncis of my duchee; for the puple was maad ful pore. [verse 19] My God, haue thou mynde of [on IX.] me in to good, bi alle thingis whiche Y dide [haue do IS.] to this puple.
