[verse 1] And Delbora and Barach, the sone of [verse 2] Benoem, songen in that day, seiynge, Ȝe that wilfully offerden of Yrael ȝoure lyues to peryl, blissith to the Lord. [verse 3] Here, ȝe kyngis; perseyue, ȝe princes, with eeris; Y am, Y am, `the whiche [that C.] to the Lord shal synge, and seye salm to the [Om. H sec. m.] God of Yrael. [verse 4] Lord, whanne thow wentist out fro Seyr, and passidist bi the regiouns of Edom, the erthe is meued, and heuens [verse 5] and clowdis droppeden with watris; hillis floweden fro the face of the Lord, and Synai fro the face of the Lord God of Israel. [verse 6] In the dais of Sangar, sone [the sone E pr. m.] of Anath, in the dais of Jahel, restiden the paththis, and tho that wenten in bi hem ȝeden a wey bi streyt beryd [beest E pr. m.] paththis out of the weye. [verse 7] Stronge men seseden in Yrael, and restiden, to the tyme that Delbora roos, moder in Yrael. [verse 8] Newe bataylis hath chosun the Lord, and the ȝatis of enemyes he ouerturnede; swerd and speer aperyde not in fourti thowsand of Yrael. [verse 9] Myn herte shal loue the princis of Yrael; ȝe that bi propre wil han offrid [verse 10] ȝou to peryl, blissith to the Lord; ȝe that stien [han styȝed E pr. m.] vp vpon shynynge [stronge E pr. vice, semynge sec. v. shynynge sec. m.] assis, and sittith [sitten C.] aboue [aboun BF. abouen E.] in doom, and goon in the weye, spekith. [verse 11] Where the chaaris ben hurtlid, and the oost of the enemyes is queynt, there the riȝtwisnessis of the Lord ben told, and mercy into the stroonge men of Yrael; thanne the puple of the Lord cam doun to the ȝatis, and hadde the prynshod. [verse 12] Ryse, ryse, Del|bora, ryse, and spek the dyte of songe; ryse, Barach, and thou, sone of Abynoem, tak thi chaytyues. [verse 13] The relyues of the puple ben saued; the Lord in stronge men hath fouȝten. [verse 14] Fro Effraym he hath doon hem a wey into Amalech, and after hym

fro Beniamyn in to thi puplis, O Ama|lech. Fro Machir princis descendiden, and fro Zabulon, that oost shulden lede to fiȝt. [verse 15] Dukis of Ysachar weren with Delbora, and the steppis of Barach thei folweden, the whiche, as into heuedi [hedi C. hedy E.] fall|ynge and helle, he ȝaf hym silf to peryl. Ruben aȝens hym diuydide, of greet willi men is foundun stryuynge. [verse 16] Whi dwellist thow bitwix [betwe C. among E pr. m.] two [thy E pr. m.] teermys, that thow here the noysis of flockis? Ruben aȝens hym dyuydide, of greet willi men is foundun a [Om. E pr. m. the BCE sec. m. FH.] strijf [striuynge E pr. m.] . [verse 17] Gad biȝonde Jordan restide, and Dan tentide to shippis. Aser dwellid in the brenk of the see, and in hauens abood. [verse 18] Forsothe Zabulon and Neptalym offerden her [Om. E pr. m.] lyues to deeth, in the [Om. E pr. m.] regioun of Moreme. [verse 19] Kyngis camen, and fouȝten; fouȝten the kyngis of Chanaan in Thanath, biside the watris of Magedan; and neuerthelater [nerthelater CE.] no thing token the praytakers. [verse 20] Fro heuene it is fouȝten aȝens hem; sterrys dwellynge in ordre and in her course aȝens Sysaram fouȝten. [verse 21] The streem of Syson drowȝ the careyns of hem, the streem of Cadunym, streem of Cyson. Treed thou, my soule, stronge men. [verse 22] Cleas of hors fellen hem fleynge with feerse, and bi heedlynge [heuedlynge B.] fallinge [fallige A.] the moost stroonge men of enemyes. [verse 23] Curse ȝe to the loond of Meroth, seide the aungel of the Lord, curse ȝe to the dwellers of it, for thei camen not to the help of the Lord, in to the help of the moost stronge men of hym. [verse 24] Blessid among wymmen Jahel, the wijf of Aber Cynei; be she blessid in hir tabernacle. [verse 25] To the askynge water sche ȝaf mylk, and in the viole of pryncis she brouȝte forth butter. [verse 26] The left hoond she putte to the nayl, and the riȝt to the hamers of smythis; and she smoot Cisaram, sech|ynge

in the heed the place of the wound, and the temple myȝtilich thrillynge [thirlende C.] . [verse 27] Bi|twix the feet of hir he felle, failid, and dyede; and he was wrappid bifore the feet of hir, and he lay out of lijf, and wretchidful. [verse 28] Bi the wyndow biholdynge ȝollide the moder of hym; and fro the sowpynge place she spak, Whi tarieth to turne aȝen the chaar of hym? Whi tary|eden the feet of the foure whelid cartis of hym? [verse 29] `Oon wiser than that [The C.] other wijfis of hym to the moder in lawe thes [verse 30] wordis answerde, Perauenture now he dyuydith spuylis, and the moost feyr of wymmen is chosun to hym; clothis of dyuers colours to Sysare ben taak into praye, and dyuerse portenaunce to neckis to be anourned is born to gidre. [verse 31] So perischen alle thin enemyes, thou Lord; forsothe thoo that louen thee, as the sunne in his rysynge shyneth, so glit|teren thei. [verse 32] And the loond restide bi fourti ȝeer [wynter B.] .
