[verse 1] Therfor while Esdras preiede so, and bisouȝte God [God for the peple IS.] , and wepte, and lai bifor the temple of God, a ful greet cumpenye of Israel, of men, and of wymmen, and of children, was gaderid [gaderid togidre INS.] to him; and the puple wepte bi [with I.] myche weping. C.] , the sone of Jehiel, of the sones of Helam, answeride, and seide to Esdras, We han [haue I.] trespasside aȝens oure God, and [and we INS.] han [haue I.] weddid wyues, alien wymmen, of `the puplis of [Om. And now, for pe|naunce [penaunce or ponishing S.] [verse 3] is in Israel on this thing, smyte [make INS.] we boond of pees with `oure Lord God [the Lord oure God INS.] , and caste we awei alle `wyues aliens [oure alien wyues INS.] , and hem that ben borun of tho wyues [wyues, and NS.] , bi [be this don bi the lawe, bi INS.] the wille of the Lord; and of hem that dreden the comaundement [heest INS.] of oure God, `be it don bi the lawe [Om. INS.] . [verse 4] Rise thou [thou up INS.] , it `is thin [perteyneth to thee I.] office [Om. plures.] to deme [deme this thing NS.] , and we schulen be with thee; be thou coumfortid, and do [do thus IS.] . [verse 6] And Esdras roos [roos up INS.] bifor the hows of God, and he ȝede to the bed of Johannan, sone [the sone NS.] of Eliasiph, and entride [he entride INS.] thidur; he eet not [not in this tyme S.] breed, and [ne INS.] drank not [Om. INS.] watir; for [certis INS.] he biweilide [weilide INS.] the trespassing [trispacis S.] of hem, that weren comun fro the caitifte. [verse 7] And a vois of hem was sent in to Juda and Jerusalem, to alle the sones of trans|mygracioun

[caitiftee INS.] , that thei schulden be ga|derid [gaderid togidre INS.] [verse 8] in to [Om. N.] Jerusalem; and ech man that cometh not [not thidere IS.] in thre daies, bi the [Om. INS.] counsel of the [Om. CGINQS.] princes and of eldre men, al his catel schal be takun awey fro him, and he schal be cast awei fro the cum|peny of transmygracioun. [verse 9] Therfor alle the men of Juda and of Beniamyn camen togidere in to Jerusalem in thre daies; thilke is the nynthe monethe, in the twen|tithe dai of the monethe; and al the pu|ple sat in `the street [a large place INS.] of Goddis hows, and trembliden [thei trembliden INS.] for synne and reyn [for reyn that thanne felle IS. for reyn N.] .
