[verse 1] Thanne Salomon seide, The Lord bi|hiȝte, that he wolde dwelle in derknesse [derknesses C.] ; [verse 2] forsothe [and INS.] I haue bilde an hows to his name, that he schulde dwelle there [there ynne INS.] with outen ende. [verse 3] And Salomon turnede his face, and blesside [he blesside INS.] al the multitude of Is|rael; for al the cumpeny stood ententif [ententif, or takinge tent I. ententife, that is, taking heed bisili S.] ; [verse 4] and he [Salomon INS.] seide, Blessid be the Lord God of Israel, for he fillide [hath fulfillid INS.] in werk that thing, that he spak to Dauid, my fadir, and [verse 5] seide, Fro [For NS.] the dai in which Y ledde my puple out of the lond of Egipt, Y chees not a citee of alle the lynagis [linage S.] of Israel, that an hows schulde be bildid therynne to my name, nether Y chees ony other man, that he schulde be duyk on [upon IS.] my pu|ple [verse 6] Israel; but Y chees Jerusalem, that [that and S.] my name be therynne, and Y chees Dauid, to ordeyne hym on [upon IS.] my puple Israel. [verse 7] And whanne it was of the wille of Dauid, my fadir, to bilde an hows to the name of the [verse 8] Lord God of Israel, the Lord seide to hym, For this was thi wille, `that thou woldist [to S.] bilde [haue bilde IN.] an hows to my name, sotheli thou [verse 9] didist wel, hauynge suche a wil, but [but ȝit NS.] thou schalt not bilde an hows to me; netheles the sone, that schal go out of [at S.] thi leendis, he schal bilde an hows to my name. [verse 10] Ther|for the Lord hath fillid [fulfillid INS.] his word, which [that INS.] he spak; and Y roos [roos up INS.] for Dauid, my fader, and Y sat on [upon IS.] the trone of Israel, as the Lord spak, and Y bildide [haue bildid INS.] an hous to the [verse 11] name of the Lord God of Israel; and I haue put therynne the arke, in which is the couenaunt of the Lord, which he `co|uenauntide with [comaundide to S.] the sones of Israel. [verse 12] Ther|for Salomon stood bifor the auter of the Lord euene aȝens al the multitude of Is|rael, and stretchide [he stretchide INS.] forth his hondis. [verse 13] For [And INS.] Salomon hadde maad a brasun founde|ment, and hadde [he hadde INS.] set it in the myddis of the greet hows, and it hadde fyue cubitis

of lengthe, and fyue of breede, and thre cubitis of heiȝthe, and he stood theron [here upon INS.] ; and fro that tyme he knelide [knelide on S.] aȝens al the multitude of Israel, and reiside [he reiside up INS.] the [hise INS.] hondis [verse 14] in to heuene, and seide, Lord God of Is|rael, noon is lijk thee [thee in power, kunnyng, ne in goodnesse S.] ; `thou art [Om. N.] God in heuene and in erthe, which [the which I.] kepist coue|naunt and mercy with thi seruauntis, that [whiche INS.] [verse 15] goon bifor thee in al her herte; which [thou INS.] hast ȝoue to Dauid thi seruaunt, my fadir, what euer thingis [thing INS.] thou hast spoke [spoke or bihiȝte S.] to hym, and [and Lord IS.] thow hast fillid [fulfillid INS.] in werk tho thingis, whiche thou bihiȝtist bi mouth, as also present [this present INS.] tyme preueth. [verse 16] Now therfor, Lord God of Israel, fille [fulfille INS.] thou to thi ser|uaunt my fadir Dauid, what euer thingis thou hast spoke, seiynge, A man of thee schal not faile bifor me, that schal sitte on [upon IS.] the trone of Israel; so netheles if [that INS.] thi sones kepen my weies, and goon in my lawe [Lo! how God spekith con|disciouns! Lire. S.] , as and thou [thou, Dauith NS.] hast go bifor me. [verse 17] And now, Lord God of Israel, thi word be [be it INS.] maad stidefast [stidfast, or fulfillid S.] , which thou spakist to thi seruaunt Dauid. [verse 18] Therfor whether [Om. IN.] it is leueful [bileueful BCDEGIKLMNOPQUVWXç. bileeue|ful, that is, able or liȝt to bileue S.] , that the Lord dwelle with men on [upon IS.] erthe? If heuene and the [Om. I.] heuenes of heuenes `taken not thee [taken ethir moun not holde thee, Lord NS.] , how myche more this hows, which Y haue bildid? [verse 19] But herto oneli it is maad, that thou, my Lord God, biholde [biholde there I. biholde there ine S.] the preier of thi seruaunt, and the bisechyng of hym, and that thou [thou Lord S.] here the preieris, whiche thi seruaunt [verse 20] schedith [heeldith I. shedith oute S.] bifor thee; that thou opyne thin [the X.] iȝen on [upon IS.] this hows bi dayes and nyȝtis, on [upon IS.] the place in which thou bihiȝtist, that [verse 21] thi name schulde be clepid [inclepid IS.] , and that thou woldist here the preier, which thi seruaunt preieth therynne. Here thou [thou, Lord INS.] the preieris of thi seruaunt, and of thi puple Israel; who euer preieth in this place, here thou [thou him INS.] fro thi dwellyng place, that is, fro heuenes [heuene NS.] , and do thou merci [merci to him INS.] . [verse 22] If ony

man synneth aȝens his neiȝbore, and cometh redi to swere aȝens him, and byndith hym silf with cursyng bifor the auter in [of NS.] this [verse 23] hows [house, that is, that his quarrel is iust S.] , thou schalt [shalt, Lord S.] here [here him INS.] fro heuene, and schalt [thou schalt INS.] do the doom of thi seruauntis [seruaunt N.] ; so that thou ȝelde to the wickid man his weie in to his owne heed, and that thou venge the iust man, and ȝelde to hym after his riȝtfulnesse [riȝtwisnesse INS.] . [verse 24] If thi puple Israel is ouer|comen of enemyes, for thei [that thi peple INS.] schulen do synne aȝens thee, and if thei [thi peple INS.] conuertid [conuertid fro her synne IS.] doen penaunce, and bisechen thi name, [verse 25] and preien in this place, thou schalt [shalt, Lord S.] here [here hem INS.] fro heuene, and do thou mercy to the synne of thi puple Israel, and brynge hem aȝen `in to [to INS.] the lond, which thou hast ȝoue to hem, and to `the fadris of hem [her fadris INS.] . [verse 26] If whanne heuene is closid, reyn come [cometh A sec. m.] not doun for the synne of thi puple, and thei bisechen thee in this place, and know|lechen to thi name, and ben turned [turned al togidre INS.] fro her synnes, whanne thou hast turmentid [verse 27] hem, here thou [thou hem thanne IN.] , Lord [Lord, hem S.] , fro heuene, and forȝyue thou synnes [the synnes INS.] to thi seruauntis, and to thi puple Israel, and teche [Lord, teche NS.] thou hem a good weie, bi which thei schulen entre [entre to thee S.] , and ȝyue thou reyn to the lond, which [that INS.] thou hast ȝoue to thi puple to haue in possessioun. [verse 28] If [If that NS.] hungur risith in the lond, and pestilence, and rust, and wynd dis|triynge cornes, and a [if that a INS.] locuste, and bruke [a bruke C.] cometh [comen [comith S] fretynge cornes IS.] , and if enemyes bisegen the ȝatis of the citee, aftir that the cuntreis ben distried, and [and if IN. and if al, that is S.] al [ony maner I. al the N. if eny of al the S.] veniaunce [veniauncis biforseid S.] and sikenesse [verse 29] oppressith [op|pressith thi puple IS.] ; if ony of thi puple Israel [of Israel INS.] bisechith, and knowith his veniaunce [veniaunce, that is, his synne wherfore he hath disserued veniaunce S.] and sikenesse, and if he spredith abrood hise [verse 30] hondis in this hows, thou [Lord, thou IS.] schalt here [here him INS.] fro heuene, that is, fro thin hiȝe dwellyng place, and [Om. S.] do thou mercy, and ȝelde thou to ech man aftir hise weies, whiche thou

knowist, that he hath in his herte; for thou [Lord, thou S.] aloone knowist the hertis of the [verse 31] sones of men; that [therfore thei NS.] thei drede thee, and go in thi weies in alle daies, in which thei lyuen on [upon IS.] the face of erthe, which thou hast ȝoue to oure fadris. [verse 32] Also [Also, Lord INS.] thou schalt here fro heuene, thi moost stidfast dwellyng place, a straunger, which [that INS.] is not of thi puple Israel, if he cometh fro a fer lond for [and preieth in this place for INS.] thi greet name, and for thi stronge hond, and arm [thin arm INS.] holdun [streiȝt I. holdinge NS.] forth, `and [verse 33] preye [preieth BCDEFGKLMPQRUVWXbç. here thou him S.] in this place [Om. IN.] ; and [and, Lord S.] thou schalt do alle thingis, for which thilke pilgrym `in|wardli clepith [ynclepith IN. inwardli clepide S.] thee, that [and INS.] alle the [Om. NS.] puplis [peple X.] of erthe knowe [knowe thei INS.] thi name, and drede [drede thei NS.] thee, as thi puple Israel doith; and that thei knowe, that thi name is clepid [ynwardly clepid INS.] on [upon IS.] this hows, which [the which I.] Y haue bildid to thi name. [verse 34] If thi puple goith out to batel aȝens hise aduersaries [aduersarie NS.] , bi the weie in which thou sendist hem, thei schulen worschipe thee aȝens the weie in which this citee is [is sett NS.] , which [that INS.] thou hast chose, and [aȝens S.] the hows [verse 35] which [that INS.] Y bildide [haue bildid INS.] to thi name, that thou here fro heuene her preieris and bisech|yng [her bisechyng IN. her bisechingis S.] , and do [do thou INS.] veniaunce [veniaunce to her aduersaries S.] . [verse 36] Forsothe [And INS.] if thei synnen aȝens thee, for no man is [is alyue S.] that synneth not, and if thou art wrooth to [with S.] hem, and bitakist hem to enemyes [her enmyes NS.] ; and enemyes [if enmyes NS.] leden hem prisoneris in to a fer [verse 37] lond, ether certis which [the which I.] lond is nyȝ; and if thei ben conuertid in her herte in the lond, to [in S.] which thei ben led prisoneris, and thei don penaunce [verei penaunce I.] , and bisechen thee in the lond of her caitifte, and seien, We han synned, we han [haue IS.] do wickidly, we [verse 38] diden vniustli; and [and, Lord S.] if thei turnen aȝen [Om. I.] to thee in al her [Om. INS.] herte, and in al her [Om. N.] soule, in the lond of her [Om. S.] caitifte, to which thei ben led, thei [and if thei INS.] schulen worschipe thee aȝens the weie of her lond, which thou

hast ȝoue to the fadris of hem, and [and aȝens the wey I. and if thei shuln worshepe thee aȝens the wei S.] of [Om. N.] the citee which thou hast chose, and [Om. S.] of the hows which [that INS.] Y bildide to thi name; [verse 39] that thou here fro heuene, that is, fro thi stidefast dwellyng place, the preieris of hem, and that thou make dom, and for|ȝyue to thi puple, thouȝ `it be [thei ben EL. thei be P. it haue be INS. Om. BCDFMOQRUVWXbç.] synful; [verse 40] for [certis INS.] thou art my God; Y biseche [biseche thee I. biseche thee, Lord NS.] , be thin iȝen openyd, and thin [be thin INS.] eeris be [Om. INX.] ententif [ententif or takinge tent [heed S.] IS.] to the preier which [that I.] is maad in this place. [verse 41] Now therfor [Om. INS.] , Lord God, rise [rise up INS.] in to thi reste, thou and the arke of thi strengthe; Lord God, thi preestis be clothid with helthe, and thi hooli men be glad in [verse 42] goodis [gode thingis INS.] . Lord God [Om. S.] , turne thou not a weie the face of thi crist [that is, thi mercy doyng I. marg. S. text.] ; haue thou mynde on [of INSb.] the [thi S.] mercyes [merci doyngis NS.] of Dauid thi seruaunt.
