[verse 1] Josie was of eiȝte ȝeer, whanne he bigan to regne, and he regnede in Jerusalem oon and thritti ȝeer. [verse 2] And he dide that, that [Om. S.] was riȝtful in the siȝt of the Lord; and ȝede [he ȝede INS.] in the waies of Dauid, his fadir, and

bowide [he bowide INS.] not to the riȝt side nether to the left side. [verse 3] Forsothe [And INS.] in the eiȝtethe ȝeer of the rewme of his empire, whanne he was ȝit a child, he bigan to seke God [the God S.] of his fadir Dauid; and in [aftir INS.] the tweluethe ȝeer after [Om. INS.] that he bigan [bigan to regne INS.] , he clenside Juda and Jerusalem fro [of INS.] hiȝ [hiȝ solempne INS.] places, and wodis [of mawmet wodis INS.] , and similacris [of similacris INS.] , and grauun [of grauun INS.] ymagis. [verse 4] And thei [the men of Josie INS.] destrieden bifor hym the auteris of Baalym, and thei destrieden the symy|lacris, that weren put aboue [aboue tho auters IS.] . Also he hewide doun the wodis [mawmett wodis INS.] , and grauun [the grauen S.] ymagis, and brak [he brak IS.] to [thes into INS.] smale gobetis; and scateride [tho smale gobetis he scateride INS.] abrood `the smale gobetis [Om. INS.] on [vpon IS.] the [Om. C.] birielis of hem, that [whiche INS.] weren wont to offre `to tho [to the ymagis of ydolatrie I marg. to tho ymagis NS.] . [verse 5] Ferthermore he [the kyng INS.] brente the boonys of preestis in [upon IS. on N.] the auteris of idols, and he clenside Juda and Jerusalem [Jerusalem of ydolatrie NS.] . [verse 6] But also he destriede alle idols [the idols INS.] in [of S.] the citees [citee AS.] of Manasses, and of Effraym, and of Sy|meon, `til to [vnto INS.] Neptalym. [verse 7] And whanne he [kyng Josias INS.] hadde scateride the [thes INS.] auteris, and hadde [Om. INS.] al to [Om. I.] -broke in to gobetis the wodis [mawmett wodis INS.] , and grauun [the grauun INS.] ymagis, and hadde [whanne he hadde INS.] destried alle templis [the temples INS.] of ydols fro al the lond of Israel, he turnede aȝen in to Jerusalem. [verse 8] Therfor in the eiȝtenthe ȝeer of his rewme, whanne the lond and temple [the temple INS.] `of the Lord [Om. S.] was clensid nowe [Om. N.] , he sente Saphan, the sone of Helchie, and Masie, the prince of the citee, and Joa, the sone of Joachaz, chaun|celer [his chaunceler INS.] , that thei schulden reparele the hous `of his Lord God [the Lord his God INS.] . [verse 9] Whiche [The whiche men I. Which men S.] camen to Hel|chie, the grete preest; and whanne thei hadden take of hym the money, which [that IN.] was brouȝt in to the hows of the Lord; and [Om. [verse 10] and of the dwelleris of Jerusalem, thei ȝauen it in [in to S.] the hondis of hem that [whiche INS.] weren souereyns of the werk men in the hows of the Lord, that thei schulden restore the temple, and reparele alle feble [the feble INS.] thingis [thingis therof INS.] . [verse 11] And thei ȝauen that monei to the [Om. INS.] crafti men and masouns, for to bie stoonys hewid out of the `delues, ether [Om. INS.] quarreris [quarreis A.] , and trees [to bie trees INS.] to the [Om. INS.] ioynyngis of the bildyng [bildingis I.] , and to the coupling of housis, whiche the kingis of Juda hadden destried. [verse 12] Whiche [The whiche I.] men [werk men INS.] diden feithfuli alle thingis. Sotheli [And INS.] the souereyns of worcheris weren Jabath, and Abdie, of the sones of Merari; Zacarie [and Zacarie NS.] , and Mosallam, of the sones of Caath; whiche hastiden the werk; alle [alle thes INS.] weren dekenes, kunnynge [kunnynge men INS.] to synge with orguns. [verse 13] Sotheli [And INS.] ouer them that baren birthuns to dyuerse vsis weren the [Om. IN sec. m. S.] scribis, and mais|tris of the [Om. INS.] dekenes, and porteris. [verse 14] And whanne thei baren out the monei, that was borun [broȝt INS.] in to the temple of the Lord, Helchie, `the preest [Om. S.] , foond the [a INS.] book of the lawe of the Lord bi the hond [hond or loor S.] of Moises. [verse 15] And he [Helchie INS.] seide to Saphan, the writere, Y haue founde the [a INS.] book of the lawe in the hows of the Lord. [verse 16] And Hel|chie took [took it INS.] to Saphan, and he bar in the [that INS.] book to the king; and telde [he telde INS.] to hym, and seide, Lo! alle thingis ben fillid [fulfillid IN. fulfillid or endide S.] , whiche thou hast ȝoue in to the hondis of thi ser|uauntis. [verse 17] Thei [And thei S.] han wellyd togidere the [thi N.] siluere, which is foundun in the hous of the Lord; and it is ȝouun to the soue|reyns of the [Om. INS.] crafti men, and makynge [verse 18] dyuerse werkis; ferthermore Helchie, the preest, took to me this book. And whanne he hadde rehersid this book in the [Om. INS.] pre|sence [verse 19] of the kyng, and he [whanne the kyng INS.] hadde herd the wordis of the lawe, he to-rente hise clothis; [verse 20] and he comaundide to Helchie, and to Ai|chan, the sone of Saphan, and to Abdon, the sone of Mycha, and to Saphan, the scryuen, and to Asaie, the seruaunt of the

[verse 21] kyng, and seide [he seide IN. he seide to hem S.] , Go ȝe, and preie [preieth INS.] the Lord for me, and for the resydue [remenaunt INS.] men [of men INS.] of Israel and of Juda, on alle the wordis of this book, which [that INS.] is [is now IS.] foundun. For [Certis INS.] greet veniaunce of the Lord hath droppid on [upon IS.] vs, for oure fadris kepten not the wordis of the Lord, to do alle thingis that [whiche INS.] ben writun in this book. [verse 22] Therfor Helchie ȝede [Om. IN.] , and thei that weren sent togidere of [fro NS.] the king, to [wenten to IN.] Olda, the prophetesse, the wijf of Sellum, sone [the sone INS.] of Thecuath, sone [the sone INS.] of Asra, kepere of clothis [the kingis clothis INS.] , which [the which I.] Olda dwellide in Jerusalem in the secounde warde; and thei spaken to hir the wordis, whiche we telden bifore. [verse 23] And sche an|sweride to hem, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, Seie ȝe to the [that S.] man, [verse 24] that sente ȝou to me, The Lord seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal brynge ynne [Om. S.] yuels on [upon IS.] this place, and on [upon INS.] the dwelleris therof, and alle the cursyngis that ben writun in this book, which [that INS.] thei redden [han rad INS.] bifor the kyng of Juda. [verse 25] For thei han forsake me, and han sacrified [sacrifisid plures.] to alien goddis, for to terre me to wrathfulnesse in alle the werkis of her hondis; therfor my strong veniaunce schal droppe on [upon IS.] this place, and it schal not be quenchid [quenchid or lettid S.] . [verse 26] But speke ȝe thus to the kyng of Juda, that sente ȝou to preye the Lord, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, For thou [verse 27] herdist the wordis of the book [book of Goddis dome S.] , and thin herte [herte therbi IS.] is maad neisch [nesshe to vnderstonde Goddis sentence S.] , and thou art mekid in the siȝt of the Lord of [of or for S.] these thingis that [whiche NS.] ben seide aȝens this place and the [aȝens the I.] dwelleris of Jerusalem, and thou hast re|uerensid my face, and hast to-rente thi clothis, and hast wepte bifor me; also Y haue [haue therfor S.] herd thee, seith the Lord. [verse 28] For [Certis INS.] now Y schal gadere thee to thi fadris, and thou schalt be borun in to thi sepulcre in pees; and thin iȝen schulen not se al yuel [the yuel, that is, noon of alle the yuels INS.] ,

which [that INS.] Y schal brynge yn on [upon IS.] this place, and on [upon IS.] the dwelleris therof. Therfor [Thanne I.] thei telden to the king alle thingis, whiche [that I.] Olda hadde seid. [verse 29] And aftir that he [the kyng INS.] hadde clepid togidere alle the eldere [verse 30] men of Juda and of Jerusalem, he stiede [stiede up INS.] in to the hows of the Lord, and [and ther stieden up I.] togidere [togidere with him INS.] alle [stied vp al S.] the [Om. N.] men of Juda, `and the dwelleris of Jerusalem [Om. INS.] , preestis, and dekenes, and al the puple, fro the leeste `til to [vnto IN. to SX.] the moste; to whiche [whos INS.] herynge in the hows of the Lord, the kyng redde alle the wordis of the book [forseide book S.] . [verse 31] And he stood in his [the N.] trone, and smoot [smote or made S.] a boond of pees bifor the Lord, for to `go aftir [sue INS.] hym, and to kepe the comaundementis [heestis INS.] , and witnessyngis [the witnessyngis INS.] , and iustifiyngis [the iustifyingis NS.] of hym, in al his herte and in al his soule; and to do tho thingis that [which S.] weren writun in that book, which [that INS.] he hadde red. [verse 32] And he chargide greetli on [upon INS.] this thing alle men, that weren foundun in Jerusalem and Beniamyn [in Beniamyn IN.] ; and the dwellers of Jerusalem diden [bi heest of the king diden S.] aftir the couenaunt [heest INS.] of the Lord God of her fadris. [verse 33] Therfor Josie dide awei alle abhomyna|ciouns [the abhomynaciouns I.] fro alle the cuntreis of the sones of Israel; and he [Om. S.] made alle men, that weren residue [left INS.] in Israel, to serue her [the INS.] Lord God; in [and in NS.] alle the [Om. I.] daies of his lijf thei ȝeden not awei fro the Lord God of her fadris.
