N.] of werriouris in [to be in S.] the oost; and he clepide togidere alle men in the street of the ȝate of the citee, and spake [he spake INS.] to the [verse 7] herte of hem [his men INS.] , and seide, Do ȝe manli, and be ȝe coumfortid; nyle ȝe drede, nether be ȝe [Om. S.] aferd of the kyng of Assiriens, and [ne INS.] of al the multitude which [that INS.] is with him; for [forsothe IN.] many mo [many mo; that is, the vertu of God and of hise aungels, whos strengthe is myȝtiere than al the vertu of men, wherfor it is seid with ynne that the aungel of the Lord killide esch strong man and wer|rioure of the oost of the king of Assiriens. [verse 13] Whether ȝe witen not what thingis Y haue do, and my fadir [fadris S.] , to alle the puplis of londis? Whether the goddis of folkis and of alle londis myȝten delyuere her cuntrei fro myn hond [hondis NS.] ? [verse 14] Who is of alle goddis [the goddis INS.] of folkis, whiche my fadris distrieden, that myȝte delyuere his puple fro myn hond, that also ȝoure God may delyuere ȝou fro this [myn INS.] hond? [verse 15] Therfor Ezechie disseyue not ȝou, nether scorne [scorne he ȝou IN. scorne he not ȝou S.] bi veyn counselyng, nethir bileue ȝe to hym; for if no god of alle folkis and cun|treis myȝte delyuere his puple fro myn hond, and fro the hond [hondis NS.] of my fadris, suyngli nether ȝoure God schal mowe de|lyuere ȝou fro this myn hond. [verse 16] But also hise seruauntis spaken many othir thingis aȝenus the Lord God, and aȝens Ezechie, his seruaunte. [verse 17] Also he wroot epistlis ful of blasfemye aȝens the Lord God of Israel, and he spak aȝens God [God, and seide INS.] , As the goddis of othere folkis myȝten not delyuere her puple fro myn hond, so and the God of Ezechie may not delyuere his puple fro myn hond. [verse 18] Ferthermore and with greet cry in the langage of Jewis he sownede aȝens the puple, that sat on [upon INS.] the wallis of Jerusalem, to make hem aferd, and to take the citee. [verse 19] And he spake aȝens God of Is|rael, as aȝens the goddis of the [Om. INS.] puplis of erthe, the werkis of mennus hondis. [verse 20] Ther|for Ezechie, the kyng, and Ysaie, the pro|fete, the sone of Amos, preieden aȝens this blasfemye, and crieden [thei crieden INS.] til in to heuene. [verse 21] And the Lord sente his aungel, that [the whiche I.] killide ech strong man and werriour, and the prince of the oost of the kyng of Assiriens; and he [Senacherib INS.] turnede aȝen with schenship `in to [to C.] his lond. And whanne he hadde entrid in to the hows of his god,
the sones, that [whiche INS.] ȝeden out of his wombe, killiden hym [him there S.] with swerd. [verse 22] And the Lord sauyde Ezechie, and the dwelleris of Jeru|salem, fro the hond of Senacherib, kyng of Assiriens, and fro the hond of alle men; and ȝaf [he ȝaf INS.] to hem reste bi cumpas. [verse 23] Also many men brouȝten offryngis and sacri|fices to the Lord in [Om. N.] to Jerusalem, and ȝiftis to Ezechie, kyng of Juda; which [that I.] was enhaunsid aftir these thingis bifor alle folkis. [verse 24] In tho daies Ezechie was sijk `til to [vnto INS.] the deth, and he preiede the Lord; and he herde hym, and ȝaf [he ȝaf INS.] to hym a [verse 25] signe [token of helthe IS. token N.] ; but he ȝeldide not [not to him aȝen I. not thankingis to the Lord S.] bi [aftir I.] the bene|fices [benefetis IS.] whiche [that I.] he hadde take, for his herte was reisid [reised into pride S.] ; and ire [wraththe I. wraththe of the Lord NS.] was maad aȝens hym, and aȝens Juda, and aȝens Jerusa|lem. [verse 26] And he was mekid aftirward, for [for thi that IN. for that that S.] his herte was reisid; bothe [and bothe INS.] he was mekid, and the dwelleris of Jerusalem; and ther|for the ire [wraththe INS.] of the Lord cam not [upon INS.] on hem in the daies of Ezechie. [verse 27] Forsothe [And INS.] Ezechie was riche, and ful noble, and gaderide [he gaderide INS.] to hym silf ful many tresours of siluer, of [and of Sç. and X.] gold, and of preciouse stoon [stones INS.] , of [and C. and of INSç.] swete smellynge spices, and of armuris of [and of S.] al kynde, and [Om. S.] of vessels of greet prijs. [verse 28] Also he bildide large housis of wheete, of wyn, and of oile, and cratchis of alle [verse 29] beestis, and fooldis to scheep, and sixe [he bildide sixe INS.] citees. For [And INS.] he hadde vnnoumbrable flockis of scheep and of grete beestis; for the Lord hadde ȝoue to hym ful myche catel. [verse 30] Thilke is Ezechie, that stoppide the hiȝere welle of the watris of Gion, and turnede [he turnede INS.] tho awei vndur the erthe at the west [west side NS.] of the citee of Dauid; in alle hise werkis he dide `bi prosperite [welsumly INS.] , what euer [Om. INS.] thing [thingis INS.] he wolde. [verse 31] Netheles in the message of the princes of Babiloyne, that [whiche INS.] weren sent to hym for to axe of the grete wondir, that bifelde on [upon INS.] the lond [lond of Juda INS.] , God forsook hym,
that he were temptid [assaied INS.] , and that alle thingis weren knowun that weren [was S.] in his herte. [verse 32] Sotheli [And INS.] the residue [remenaunt INS.] of wordis [the wordis INS.] of Ezechie, and of hise mercies, ben writun in the profesie [prophecies INS.] of Ysaie, the profete, sone [the sone INS.] of Amos, and [and also NS.] in the book of kyngis of Juda and of Israel. [verse 33] And Ezechie slepte with hise fadris, and thei birieden hym aboue the sepulcris of the sones of Dauid. And al Juda and alle the dwelleris of Je|rusalem maden solempne the seruyces [seruice S.] of his biriyng; and Manasses, his sone, reg|nide for him.
