CAP. XXVIII.
[verse 1] Achaz was of twenti ȝeer, whanne he bigan to regne, and he regnede sixtene ȝeer in Jerusalem; he dide not riȝtful|nesse [riȝtwisnesse I.] in the siȝt of the Lord, as Dauid, [verse 2] his fadir, dide [Om. N.] ; but he ȝede in the weies of the kyngis of Israel. Ferthermore and he ȝetyde [ȝetyde out IN.] ymagis to Baalym. [verse 3] He it is that brente encense in the valey of Been|non, and [or S.] purgide [purgide or brent S.] hise sones bi fier bi the custom of hethene men, whiche [whom I.] the Lord killide in the comyng of the sones of Israel [Israel fro Egipt I. Israel towardus the lond of bihest S.] . [verse 4] Also he [Achaz INS.] made sacrifice, and brente encense in hiȝ places, and in hillis, and vndur ech tree ful of bowis. [verse 5] And `his Lord God [the Lord his God NS.] bitook hym in the hond of the [Om. S.] kyng of Sirie, which [the which I.] smoot [smoot or ouercame S.] Achaz, and took [he took IS.] a greet preie of his empire, and brouȝten [he brouȝte it INS.] in to Damask. Also Achaz was bitakun to the hondis of the kyng of Israel, and was [he was INS.] smytun [smytun of him IS.] with a greet wounde. [verse 6] And Facee, the sone of Romelie, killide of [of the men of INS.] Juda sixe scoore thousynde in o dai, alle the men werriours; for thei hadden forsake the Lord God of her fa|dris. [verse 7] In the same tyme Zechry, a myȝti man of Effraym, killide Maasie, the sone of Rogloth, the kyng; and `he killide [Om. IN.] Ezrica, the duyk of his hows, and El|cana, the secounde [secounde persone S.] fro the kyng. [verse 8] And the sones of Israel token of her britheren two hundrid thousynde of wymmen and of children and of damysels, and prey
