CAP. XX.
[verse 1] Aftir these thingis the sones of Moab, and the sones of Amon, and with hem of [Om. CIN.] Idumeis [men of Ydumee INS.] , weren gaderid togidere to [and thei camen to INS.] Josa|phat, for to fiȝte aȝens hym. [verse 2] And mes|sangeris camen, and schewiden [schewiden this IS.] to Josa|phat, and seiden, A greet multitude of tho placis that [whiche NS.] ben biȝondis the see, and [Om. S.] of Sirie, is comun aȝens thee; and, lo! thei stonden [stonden togidre INS.] in Asasonthamar, which [that INS.] is En|gaddi [clepid Engaddi INS.] . [verse 3] Forsothe [And INS.] Josaphat was aferd by drede, and `ȝaf hym silf al for [al him selff he ȝaf INS.] to preye `the Lord [to the Lord of help S.] , and prechide [he prechide IN. he prechide, that is, he comaundid S.] fastynge to al Juda. [verse 4] And Juda was gaderid togidere [Om. INS.] for to preye the Lord, but [and INS.] also alle men camen fro her citees for to biseche hym [hym of help NS.] . [verse 5] And whanne Josaphat hadde stonde in the myddis of the cumpeny of Juda and of Je|rusalem, in [and in A.] the hows of the Lord, bifor [verse 6] the newe large place [place of the temple NS.] , he seide, Lord God of oure fadris, thou art God in heuene, and thou art lord of alle rewmes of folkis; strengthe and power ben in thin hond, `and noon [ne ony thing INS.] may aȝenstonde thee. [verse 7] Whe|ther not thou, oure God, hast slayn alle the dwelleris of this lond bifor thi puple Israel, and hast [thou hast INS.] ȝoue it to the seed of Abraham, thi freend, withouten ende? [verse 8] And thei [thei, that is, the after comers of Abraham S.] dwelliden [han dwellid INS.] therynne, and bildiden [thei bildiden INS.] therinne a seyntuarie to thi name, and [verse 9] seiden, If yuelis comen on [to INS.] vs, the [or the INS.] swerd of doom, pestilence, and [or INS.] hungur, we schulen stonde bifor this hows withouten ende in thi siȝt, in which hows thi name is clepid [ynclepid IN.] , and we [Om. A.] schulen crie [crie there IS.] to thee
