[verse 1] Forsothe Josaphat, kyng of Juda, turn|ede aȝen pesibli in to his hows in to Jeru|salem. [verse 2] Whom the profete Hieu, the sone of Ananye, mette, and seide [he seide INS.] to hym, Thou ȝyuest help to a wickid man, and thou art ioyned bi frendschip to hem that haten the Lord; and therfor sotheli thou de|seruedist [verse 3] [hast disserued INS.] the wraththe of the Lord; but
good werkis ben foundyn in thee, for thou didist [hast don INS.] awey wodis [mawmet wodis INS.] fro the lond of Juda, and [and also IS.] thou hast maad redi thin herte, for to seke the Lord God of thi fadris. [verse 4] Therfor Josaphat dwellide in Jerusalem; and eft he ȝede out to the puple fro Ber|sabee til [Om. INSX.] to the hil of Effraym, and he clepide hem aȝen to the Lord God of her fadris. [verse 5] And he ordeynede iugis of the lond in alle the strengthid citees of Juda, bi ech place [place or cuntrey therof IS. place or cuntre N.] . [verse 6] And he comaundide to the iugis, and seide [seide to hem INS.] , Se ȝe [ȝe, that is, be ȝe ware S.] , what ȝe doen; for ȝe vsen not the doom of man, but [but dome S.] of the Lord; and what euere thing ȝe demen [demen vniustly INS.] , [verse 7] schal [it schal I.] turne `in to [aȝens I. aȝen NS.] ȝou; the drede of the Lord be with ȝou, and do ȝe [Om. S.] alle thingis with diligence [diligens, that is, with discrecioun S.] ; for [forsothe INS.] anentis `ȝoure Lord God [the Lord ȝoure God INS.] is no wickidnesse, nether [ne S.] takynge [he is a taker I. he is acceptinge N. he is taking or accepting S.] of persoones, nether [ne INS.] coueitise of ȝiftis [ȝiftis ouer cometh him INS.] . [verse 8] Also [And also S.] in Jerusalem Josaphat ordeynede dekenes, and preestis, and the princes of meynees [the meynees NS.] of Israel, that thei schulden deme the doom and cause [the cause INS.] of the Lord to the dwellers of it [Jerusalem INS.] . [verse 9] And he comaundide to hem, and seide, Thus ȝe schulen do in the drede of the Lord, feithfuli and in per|fite herte. [verse 10] Ech cause that cometh to ȝou of [fro A.] ȝoure britheren, that [whiche NS.] dwellen in her citees, bitwixe kynrede and kynrede, where euere is questioun of the lawe, of [or of NS.] `the co|maundement [heest INS.] , of [or of INS.] cerymonyes, `ether sacri|fices [Om.
