[verse 1] Forsothe Roboam ȝede forth in to Si|chem; for al Israel came togidere thidur to make hym kyng. [verse 2] And whanne Jeroboam, the [Om. NX.] sone of Nabath, that was in Egipt [Egipt, had herd this INS.] , `for he [the whiche I. whiche NS.] fledde thidur [in to Egipt INS.] bifor Salomon, hadde herd this [the deeth of Salamon I. Salamon diede N. Salomon deiyng S.] , he turnyde aȝen anoon. [verse 3] And

thei clepiden hym, and he cam with al Israel, and thei spaken to Roboam, and [verse 4] seiden, Thi fadir oppresside vs with ful [a ful INS.] hard ȝok; comaunde thou liȝtere thingis [thingis on us I. thingis to be don to vs S.] than thi fader [fadir dide S.] , that [the whiche I. which NS.] settide [sette I. hath sett NS.] on [vpon IS.] vs a greuouse seruage [seruage or charge S.] ; and releese thou a litil of `the birthun [oure charge I. oure burthun NS.] , that we serue thee. And [verse 5] he [Ro|boam INS.] seide, After thre daies turne ȝe aȝen to me. And whanne the puple was goon, [verse 6] he took counsel with [of S.] elde men, that [whiche INS.] stoden bifor his fadir Salomon, while he lyuyde ȝit, and seide [he seide INS.] , What counsel ȝyuen ȝe, that Y answere to the puple? [verse 7] And thei seiden to hym, If thou plesist this puple, and makist hem softe [softe or esye I. softe or quietest hem S.] bi meke wordis, thei schulen serue thee in al tyme. [verse 8] And [Om. S.] he [Roboam INS.] forsook the [this S.] counsel of elde [the elde BCEFLMORVWb. the eldere P.] men, and bigan [he bigan N.] to trete [trete and councele N. trete a consel S.] with ȝonge men, that [the whiche I. whiche NS.] weren nurischid with hym, and weren in his cumpenye. [verse 9] And he seide to hem, What semeth to ȝou? ether what [what thing INS.] owe Y answere [to answere S.] to this puple, that seide to me, Releese thou the ȝok, which [that INS.] thi fadir puttide [hath putt INS.] on [upon IS.] vs? [verse 10] And thei answeriden, as ȝonge men [Om. S.] and nurschyd with hym in delicis, and seiden [thei seiden INS.] , Thus thou schalt speke to the puple that seide to thee, Thi fadir made [hath maad IN.] greuouse oure ȝok, releese thou [thou it IN.] ; and thus [Om. EFKLMNSXbç.] thou schalt answere to hem, My leeste fyngur is gretter than the leendis of [verse 11] my fader; my fadir puttide [hath put I. put S.] on [vpon S.] ȝou a greuouse ȝok, and Y schal leie to a gretter birthun; my fadir beet [betide I.] ȝou with scourgis, forsothe [but INS.] Y schal bete ȝou with `scor|piouns, that is [Om. IN.] , hard knottid roopis [roopis, that ben scorpiouns I.] . [verse 12] Therfor [And INS.] Jeroboam and [with INS.] al the puple cam to Roboam in the thridde dai, as he hadde comaundid to hem. [verse 13] And `the kyng an|sweride harde thingis [Om. INS.] , after that he [the kyng INS.] hadde [verse 14] forsake the counsel of the [Om. INSX.] eldere men, and [Om. S.] he spak bi the wille of the [Om. INS.] ȝonge men [men, he answeride hard thingis to the peple INS.] ,

My [and seide, My NS.] fadir puttide [hath putt INS.] on [upon IS.] ȝou a greuouse ȝok, which Y schal make greuousere; my fadir beet [betide I.] ȝou with scourgis [pleyn scourgis S.] , sotheli [but INS.] Y schal bete ȝou with scorpiouns [plumbid cordis INS.] . [verse 15] And he [Roboam INS.] assentide not to the [Om. NS.] preieris of the puple; for [certis INS.] it was the wille of God, that his word schulde be fillid [fulfillid INS.] , which [that INS.] he hadde spoke bi the hond of Ahie of [and S.] Silo to Jeroboam, sone [the sone IMNSbç.] of Nabath. [verse 16] Sotheli [And INS.] whanne the kyng seide [had seid INS.] hardere [these hardere IS.] thingis, al the puple spak thus to hym, No part is [Om. I. be NS.] to vs in Dauid [the lynage of Dauid I. Dauith linage S.] , nether eritage in the sone of Isai [Y say be among vs S.] ; Israel, turne thou aȝen in to thi tabernaclis, so|theli [and INS.] thou, Dauid, feede thin [thin owen INS.] hows [meynee INS.] . And Israel ȝede in to hise tabernaclis. [verse 17] For|sothe [And INS.] Roboam regnede on [upon IS.] the sones of Israel, that [the whiche I. whiche NS.] dwelliden in the citees of Juda. [verse 18] And kyng [the kyng I.] Roboam sente Adhu|ram, that was souereyn ouer [of S.] the tributis; and the sones of Israel stonyden hym, and he was deed. Certis [And INS.] kyng [the kyng I.] Roboam hastide [hastide him IS.] to stie [stie up IS.] in to the [his INS.] chare, and fledde [he fledde INS.] in to Jerusalem. [verse 19] And Israel ȝede awei fro the hows of Dauid `til to [vnto INS. to X.] this dai. C.] it was doon, whanne al Israel hadde herd, that Jeroboam turnede aȝen, thei senten, and clepiden hym, whanne the cumpeny was gaderid [gaderid togidre INS.] , and thei or|deyneden him king on [upon IS.] al Israel; and no [eueri S.] man, outakun the lynage [linagis S.] of Juda [Juda and of Benjamyn X sec. m.] aloone, suede `the hows of Dauid [hym S.] .
