CAP. XXII.

[verse 1] And Dauid seide, This is the hows of God, and this auter is in to brent sacrifice [sacrifices A.] of Israel. [verse 2] And he [Dauid IS.] comaundide that alle conuersis [men turned IS.] fro hethenesse to the lawe of Israel `schulden be [weren X.] gaderid [gaderid togidere ISX.] `of the lond of Israel [Om. X.] ; and he ordeynede of hem ma|souns for to kytte [kytte or hene IS.] stoonys and for [Om. I.] to polische [polische hem IS.] , that [and that IS.] the hows of the Lord [verse 3] schulde be bildid; also Dauid made redy ful myche yrun to the [Om. IS.] nailes of the ȝatis, and to the medlyngis and [of S.] ioyntouris, [verse 4] and [and he made redy S.] vnnoumbrable weiȝte of bras; also the trees of cedre myȝten not be gessid, whiche the men of Sidonye and the men of Tyre brouȝten to Dauid. [verse 5] And Dauid seide, Salomon, my sone, is a litil child and delicat [Glos. Salo|mon is seide delicate for tendernesse of age, not hav|ing vse of ma|ners. S.] ; sotheli [forsothe I.] the hows, which Y wole be bildid to the Lord, owith to be sich, that it be named in alle cuntrees; therfor Y schal make redi necessaries to hym. And for this cause Dauid bifor his deeth made redi alle costis [Glos. that is, sum of al coostis, for no doute Salemon addide to ouer danty purui|aunce many coostis. Lire. S.] . [verse 6] And he [Dauid IS.] cle|pide Salomon, his sone, and comaundide [he comaundide A pr. m. IS.] to hym, that he schulde bilde an hows to the Lord God of Israel. [verse 7] And Dauid seide to Salomon, My sone, it was my wille to bilde an hows to the name of `my Lord [verse 8] God [the Lord my God I.] ; but the word of the Lord was made to me, and seide, Thou hast sched out myche blood, and thou hast fouȝt ful many

batels; thou mayst not bilde an hows to my name, for thou hast sched out so [verse 9] myche blood bifor me; the sone that schal be borun to thee, schal be a man most pesible, for Y schal make hym to haue reste of alle hise enemyes bi cumpas, and for this cause he schal be clepid pesible, and Y schal ȝyue pees and reste in Israel in alle hise daies. [verse 10] He schal bilde an hows to my name; he schal be to me in to a sone, and Y schal be to hym in to a fadir, and Y schal make stidefast the seete of his rewme on [in S.] Israel withouten ende. [verse 11] Now therfor, my sone, the Lord be with thee, and haue thou prosperite, and bilde thou an hows to `thi Lord God [the Lord thi God I. thi Lord thi God S.] , as he spak [hath spoke IS.] of [to CDEFGKLMNoPQRSUXb.] thee [me N.] . [verse 12] And the Lord ȝyue to thee prudence and wit, that thou mow gouerne Israel, and kepe the lawe of `thi Lord God [the Lord thi God IS.] . [verse 13] For thanne thou maist profite, if thou kepist the comaundementis [heestis IS.] and domes, whiche the Lord comaundide to Moises, that he schulde teche Israel; be thou coumfortid, and do [do thou S.] manli, drede thou not `with outforth [outward I.] , nether drede thou `with ynne [with ynne forth IS.] . [verse 14] Lo! in my pouert Y haue maad redi the costis of the hows of the Lord; an hundrid thousinde talentis of gold, and a thousynde thousynde talentis [of talentis BCDF sec. m. MN pr. m. OUXb.] of siluer; sotheli [and IS.] of bras and irun is no weiȝte, for the noumbre is ouercomun [ouer comun neiȝt IS.] bi [with L.] greetnesse [gretenesse thereof S.] ; Y haue maad redi trees and stoonys to [at I.] alle costis. [verse 15] Also thou hast ful many crafti men, masouns, and leggeris of stonys, and crafti men of trees, and of [verse 16] alle craftis, most prudent to make werk, in gold, and siluer, and bras [in brasse S.] , and in yrun, of which is no noumbre; therfor rise thou [thou up IS.] , and make [make it I. make this houce S.] , and the Lord schal be with thee. [verse 17] Also Dauid comaundide to alle the princis of Israel, that thei schul|den [verse 18] helpe Salomon, his sone, and seide [he seide IS.] , Ȝe seen, that `ȝoure Lord God [the Lord ȝoure God S.] is with ȝou, and hath [he hath IS.] ȝoue to ȝou reste `by cumpas [abowte I.] ,

and hath [he hath IS.] bitake alle enemyes in [vndir X.] ȝoure hoond, and the erthe is suget bifor the Lord, and bifor his puple. [verse 19] Therfor ȝyue [ȝyue ȝe IS.] ȝoure hertis and ȝoure soulis, that ȝe seke `ȝoure Lord God [the Lord ȝoure God IS.] ; and rise ȝe [ȝe up IS.] togidere, and bilde ȝe a seyntuarie to `ȝoure Lord God [the Lord oure God IS.] , that the arke of boond of pees of the Lord be brouȝt in [in theder S.] , and that vessels halewid to the Lord be brouȝt in to [Om. S.] the hows, which [that IS.] is bildid to the name of the Lord.
