CAP. XVII.

[verse 1] Forsothe whanne Dauid dwellide in his hows, he seide to Nathan, the prophete, Lo! Y dwelle in an hows of cedris [cedris, that is, ful perdurable S.] ; so|theli [and IS.] the arke of boond of pees of the Lord is [is hilid IS.] vndur skynnys. [verse 2] And Nathan seide to Dauid, Do thou alle thingis that ben in thin herte, for God is with thee. [verse 3] Therfor in that nyȝt the word of the Lord [verse 4] was maad to Nathan, and seide, Go thou, and speke to Dauid, my seruaunt, The Lord seith these thingis, Thou schalt not [verse 5] bilde to me an hows to dwelle in [Om. plures.] ; for [certis IS.] Y `dwellide not [haue not dwellid I.] in an hows, fro that tyme in which Y ledde Israel out of the lond of Egipt til [Om. X.] to this dai, but euere Y chaungide [haue chaungid IS.] places [place X.] of tabernacle [the tabernacle IS.] , and dwellide [haue dwellid IS.] in a tente with al Israel. [verse 6] Where I spak [haue spoke I. haue not spoke S. spac not X.] nameli to oon of the iugis of Is|rael, to which I comaundide [comaunde A.] that thei schulde fede my puple, and seide, Whi `bildidist thou not [hast thou not bildid IS.] to me an hous of cedre? [verse 7] Now therfor thou schalt speke thus to my seruaunt Dauid, The Lord of

Y schal W.] dwelle there ynne, and it schal no more be moued, and the sones of wickydnesse schulen not [verse 10] defoule hem, as fro the bigynnyng, fro the daies in whiche Y ȝaf iugis to my puple Israel; and Y made lowe alle thin ene|myes. Therfor Y telle to thee [thee, Dauith S.] , that the Lord schal bilde an hows to thee. [verse 11] And whanne thou hast fillid [fulfillid IS.] thi daies, that thou go to thi fadris, Y schal reise [reise up IS.] thi seed after thee, that schal be of thi sones, [verse 12] and Y schal stablische his rewme; he schal bilde to me an hows, and Y schal make stidefast his seete til [Om. X.] in to with outen ende. [verse 13] Y [And I S.] schal be to hym in to a fadir, and he schal be to me in to a sone; and Y schal not do [do awey BCW.] my [Om. N.] mersi fro hym, as Y took [took it IS.] awei fro hym [Saul IS.] that was bifore [verse 14] thee; and Y schal ordeyne hym [him, that is, thi sone S.] in myn hows and in my rewme til [Om. X.] in to with outen ende; and his trone schal be moost stidefast with outen ende. [verse 15] Bi alle these wordis, and bi al this reuelacioun, so Na|than spak to Dauid. [verse 16] And whanne kyng Dauid hadde come, and hadde sete bifore the Lord, he seide, Lord God, who am Y, and what is myn hows, that thou schuldist ȝyue siche thingis to me? [verse 17] But also this is seyn litil in thi siȝt, and therfor thou spakest [hast spoke IS.] on [of IS.] the hows of thi seruaunt, ȝhe, in to tyme to comynge; and hast [thou hast IS.] maad me worthi to be biholdun [holden S.] ouer alle men. [verse 18] My Lord God, what [what thing IS.] may Dauid adde [adde to IS.] more, sithen thou hast so glorified thi ser|uaunt, and hast knowe hym? [verse 19] Lord, for

thi seruaunt thou hast do bi thin herte al this grete doyng, and woldist [thou woldist IS.] that alle grete thingis be knowun. [verse 20] Lord, noon is lijk thee, and noon other God is with oute thee, of alle whiche we herden [han herd IS.] with oure eeris. [verse 21] For who is anothir [sich anothir I. another soche peple S.] as [as is IS.] thi [the S.] puple Israel, o folc in erthe, to whom God ȝede, to delyuere and make [to make IS.] a puple to hym silf, and to caste out bi his greetnesse and dredis naciouns fro the face therof, which [the which puple I. which puple S.] he delyuerede fro Egipt? [verse 22] And thou [thou, Lord IS.] hast set thi puple Israel in to a puple to thee til [Om. X.] in to with outen ende, and thou, Lord, art maad the God therof. [verse 23] Now therfor, Lord, the word which thou hast spoke to thi seruaunt, and on his hows, be [be it IS.] con|fermed with outen ende, and do, as thou [verse 24] spake [hast spoke BCDFIKLMNOPQRSUWXb.] ; and thi name dwelle [dwelle worshepful S.] , and be magnefied [it maad greet IS.] `with outen [anentis thi seruaunt with|outen S.] ende; and be it seid, The Lord of oostis is God of Israel, and the hous of Dauid, his seruaunt, dwell|ynge bifor hym. [verse 25] For thou, my Lord God, hast maad reuelacioun to [into I. in S.] the eere of thi seruaunt, that thou woldist bilde to hym an hous; and therfor [therfor, Lord I. herfor KMXb. herfor, Lord S.] thi seruaunt foond [hath founde IS.] trist, that he preie bifor thee. [verse 26] Now ther|for, Lord, thou art God, and hast spoke [verse 27] to thi seruaunt so grete benefices; and thou hast bigunne to blesse the hous of thi seruaunt, that it be euer bifore thee; for [certis IS.] , Lord, for thou blessist, it schal be blessid with outen ende.
