CAP. XIII.
[verse 1] In the thre and twentithe ȝeer of Joas, sone [the sone I.] of Ocozie, kyng of Juda, Joachaz, sone [the sone I.] of Hieu, regnede on [upon I.] Israel, in Sa|marie seuentene ȝeer. [verse 2] And he dide yuel bifor the Lord, and he suede the synnes of Jeroboam, sone [the sone I.] of Nabath, that made Israel to do synne; and he bowide not awei fro tho [tho synnus I.] . [verse 3] And the strong [woodnesse or strong I.] veniaunce [veniaunce; in Latyn it is seid, the wood|nesse of the Lord, that is, the rigour of Goddis riȝtful|nesse, to the punysching of synne. C.] of the Lord was wrooth aȝens Israel, and he bitook hem in to the hondis [hoond I.] of Azael, kyng of Sirie, and in [to I.] the hond of Bena|dab, sone of Asael [Asael, kyng of Sirie I.] , in alle daies. [verse 4] For|sothe Joachaz bisouȝte the face of the Lord, and the Lord herde hym; for he [thi that the Lord I.] siȝ the anguysch of Israel, for the kyng of Sirie hadde al to brokun hem. [verse 5] And the Lord ȝaf a sauyour [sauyour; this sauyour was the aungel souereyn of the rewme of Is|rael, for aun|gels, souereyns of rewmys, procuren the good of rewme assigned to her kepinge, as it is had in X. co. of Danyel; wherfor this aungel lettide, bi Goddis or|denaunce, ba|tels to rise aȝenus Joachaz, fro that tyme; so that thouȝ he hadde not puple and vertu to aȝenstonde aduersaries, netheles aduer|saries of him weren refreyn|ed bi vertu of the aungel priuy to men, bi drede sent in to hem, ether by other maner, so that thei leften Joachaz and his puple in pees.
