[verse 1] Joas regnede in the seuenthe ȝeer of Hieu; Joas [he I.] regnede fourti ȝeer in Jeru|salem; the name of his modir was Sebia of Bersabee. [verse 2] And Joas dide riȝtfulnesse bifor the Lord in alle the daies, in whiche Joiada, the preest, tauȝte hym. [verse 3] Netheles he dide noȝt awey hiȝ [the hiȝ I.] thingis; for ȝit the puple made sacrifice, and brente encense in hiȝe thingis. [verse 4] And Joas seide to the preestis, `Preestis bi her ordre take [Om. I.] al that [the I.] money of hooli thingis, which [that I.] is brouȝt of men passyng forth in to the temple of the Lord, `which money [and that I.] is offrid for the prijs of soule [the soule S.] , and `which money thei [that men I.] bryngen wilfuli, and bi the [Om. I.] fredom of her herte, in to the temple of the Lord [Lord, prestis bi her oordre take it I.] . [verse 5] And `the preestis [Om. I.] reparele the hilyngis of the hows, if thei seen ony thing nedeful in reparelyng. [verse 6] Therfor [Sothly I.] the preestis repareliden not the hilyngis of the temple, `til to [vnto I.] the thre and twentithe ȝeer of kyng Joas. [verse 7] And Joas, the kyng, clepide Joiada, the bischop, and the prestis, and seide to hem, Whi han ȝe not reparelid the hilyngis of the temple? Therfor nyle ȝe more take money bi ȝoure ordre, but ȝelde [ȝelde ȝe A sec. m.] it to the reparacioun of the temple. [verse 8] And the prestis weren forbodun to take more the [Om. I.] money of the puple, and to re|parele the hilyngis of the hows. [verse 9] And Joiada, the bischop, took a [O plures.] cofere of [of the EIL.] tresorie [tresour R.] , and openyde an hole aboue, and settide it bisidis the auter, at the riȝtside of men entrynge in to the hows of the Lord; and preestis, that kepten the doris, senten [senten or putten I.] in [in to I.] it al the money that was brouȝt

to the temple of the Lord. [verse 10] And whanne thei sien that ful myche money was in the tresorie, the scryuen of the kyng and the bischop stieden [stieden up I.] , and schedden [helden I.] it [Om. plures.] out, and thei noumbriden the money that was founden in the hous of the Lord. [verse 11] And thei ȝauen it bi noumbre and mesure in the hond of hem, that weren souereyns to the masouns of the hows of the Lord, whiche [the whiche DIKMXç.] `spendiden that money [ȝauen it DKMSXç.] in `crafti men of trees [carpen|ters DKMSXç. crafti men and trees ELP.] , and in these masouns, that [verse 12] wrouȝten in the hous of the Lord, and maden the hilyngis, and in these men that hewiden stoonys; and that thei schulden bie trees and stoonys, that weren hewid [hewen ELP.] doun; so that the reparacioun of the hows of the Lord was fillid in alle thingis, that nediden [neden A.] cost to make strong the hows. [verse 13] Netheles water pottis of the temple of the Lord weren not maad of the same money, and fleischokis, and censeris, and trumpis; ech vessel of gold and of [Om. EL.] siluer weren not maad of the money, that was brouȝt in to the temple of the Lord. [verse 14] For it was ȝouun to hem that maden werk [the werk I.] , that the temple of the Lord schulde be reparelid. [verse 15] And rekenyng was not maad to these men that token monei [the monei I.] , that thei schulden deele it to crafti men; but thei tretiden [tretiden or spendiden I.] it in feith. [verse 16] Sotheli thei brouȝten not in to the temple of the Lord the money [money offrid I.] for tres|pas, and the money for synnes, for it was the preestis. [verse 17] Thanne [Thanne; that is, aftir that Joas took to him Goddis onour, and killide in the temple Zacarie, the hiȝ prest, for he re|preuyde the kyng of his synne. Lire here. C.] Asael, kyng of Sirie, stiede [wente up I.] , and fauȝte aȝen Geth; and he took it, and dresside his face, that he schulde [wolde I.] stie [wende up I.] in to Jerusalem. [verse 18] Wherfor [Therfore I.] Joas, kyng of Juda, took alle `thingis ha|lewid [the halewid thingis I.] , whiche [that I.] Josephat hadde halewid, and Joram, and Ocozie, fadris [the fadris I.] of hym, kyngis of Juda, and whiche thingis he hadde offrid, and al the siluer, that myȝte be foundun in the tresours of the temple of the Lord, and in the paleis of the kyng.

[verse 19] And he [Joas I.] sente [sente these I.] to Asael, kyng [the kyng M.] of Sirie; and [Om. I.] he [Azael I.] ȝede awei fro Jerusalem. Sotheli the residue [remenaunt I.] of wordis [the wordis EIL.] of Joas, and alle thingis whiche [that I.] he dide, whether these ben not writun in the book of wordis of daies of the kyngis of Juda? [verse 20] Forsothe [And I.] hise [the I.] seruauntis [seruauntis of Joas I.] risiden [risen EL. resen I. resin P.] , and sworen to|gidere bitwixe hem silf, and smytiden [smeten I. smetyn ELP.] Joas in the hows Mello [of Mello IS.] , and in the goyng doun of Sela. [verse 21] For [Forsothe I.] Jozachat, sone [the sone I.] of Se|math, and Joiadath, sone [the sone I.] of Soomer, hise seruauntis, smytiden [smoten I. smetin ELP.] him, and he was deed; and thei birieden hym with hise fadris in the citee of Dauid; and Amasie, his sone, regnyde for hym.
