CAP. V.
[verse 1] Also Hiram, kyng [the kyng I.] of Tire, sente hise seruauntis to Salomon; for he herde that thei [Israel I.] hadden anoyntide hym kyng for his fadir; for Hiram was frend of Dauid in al time. [verse 2] Sotheli [And I.] also Salomon sente to [verse 3] Hiram, and seide, Thou knowist the wille of Dauid, my fadir, and for he miȝte not bilde an hows to the name of his God, for batels [his batels I.] neiȝynge bi cumpas, til the Lord ȝaf hem vndur the step of hise feet. [verse 4] Now [But now I.] forsothe [Om. I.] my Lord God ȝaf [hath ȝouen I.] reste to me bi cumpas, and noon aduersarie is, nethir [verse 5] yuel asailyng; wherfor Y thenke to buylde a temple to the name of my Lord God, as God spak to Dauid, my fadir, and seide, Thi sone, whom Y schal ȝyue to thee for thee on [upon I.] thi trone, he schal bilde an hows to my name. [verse 6] Therfor comaunde thou, that thi seruauntis hewe doun to me cedris of the Liban; and my seruauntis be with thi seruauntis; sotheli [and I.] Y schal ȝyue to thee the meede of thi seruauntis, what euere meede [Om. I.] thou schalt axe; for thou woost, that in my puple is not a man that kan hewe trees, as Sidonyes [men of Sydonye I.] kunnen [Om. I.] . [verse 7] Therfor whanne Hiram hadde herde the wordis of Salomon, he was ful glad, and seide, Blessid be the Lord God to dai, that ȝaf [hath ȝoue I.] to Dauid a [the I.] sone moost wijs on [upon I.] this puple ful myche. [verse 8] And Hiram sente to Salomon, and seide, Y haue herde what euer thingis [thing I.] thou sentist [hast sent I.] to me; Y schal do al thi wille, in trees of cedres, and of beechis [beeche I.] [of beechis; Ebreys seyn, in trees of box, where oure translacioun hath, of beechis. C.] . [verse 9] My seruauntis schulen putte doun tho [the I.] trees fro the Liban [hil of Liban I.] to the see, and Y schal araye tho trees in schippis in the see, `til to [vnto I.] the place which [that I. where L.] thou schalt signyfie to me; and Y schal dresse tho there, that thou take tho; and thou schalt ȝyue necessaries [necessarie S.] to me, that mete be ȝouun to myn hows. [verse 10] Therfor [And so I.] Hiram ȝaf to Salomon `trees of cedres [cedre trees I.] , and `trees
