CAP. XVII.
[verse 1] And Elie `of Thesbi [Thesbithes I.] , of the dwelleris of Galaad, seide to Achab, The Lord God of Israel lyueth, in whos siȝt Y stonde, deeu and reyn schal not be in these ȝeeris, no but bi the wordis of my mouth. [verse 2] And the word of the Lord was maad to hym [Hely I.] , [verse 3] and seide, Go thou awey fro hennus [go thou awei fro hennes; fro the face of Achab and of Jezabel; and herbi it is leue|ful to hooli men, to fle per|secucioun of her persoones. C.] , and go aȝens the eest, and be thou hid in the stronde of Carith, which [that I.] is aȝens Jor|dan, [verse 4] and there thou schalt drynke of the stronde; and Y comaundide [haue comaundid I.] to crowis, that thei feede thee there. [verse 5] Therfor he [Hely I.] ȝede, and dide bi the word of the Lord; and whanne he hadde go, he sat in the stronde of Carith, which [that I.] is aȝens Jordan. [verse 6] And crowis baren to hym breed and fleisch eerli; in [and in I.] lijk maner in the euentid; and he drank of the stronde. [verse 7] Forsothe [And I.] after summe daies the stronde was dried; for it hadde not reynede on the erthe. [verse 8] Therfor the word of the Lord was maad to hym [Hely I.] , [verse 9] and seide, Rise thou, and go in to Serepta of Sydoneis, and thou schalt dwelle there; for Y comaundide [haue comaundid I.] to a womman, widewe there, that sche feede thee. [verse 10] He [Hely I.] roos, and ȝede in to Sarepta of Sidoneis; and whanne he hadde come to the ȝate of the citee, a womman widewe gaderynge stickis apperide to hym; and he clepide hir, and seide to hir, Ȝyue thou to me a litil of water in a vessel, that Y drynke. [verse 11] And whanne sche ȝede to bringe [bringe it I. bringe him watir K.] , he
