[verse 1] Forsothe the word of the Lord was maad to Hieu, sone [the sone I.] of Anany, aȝens Baasa, [verse 2] and seide, For that that Y reiside [haue upreisid I.] thee fro dust, and settide [sette I.] thee duyk on [upon I.] Israel, my puple; sotheli thou ȝedist in the weie of Jeroboam, and madist [thou hast made I.] my puple Israel to do synne, that thou schuldist terre me to ire, in the synnes of hem; lo [lo herfore I.] ! [verse 3] Y schal kitte awey the hyndrere thingis of Baasa, and the hyndrere thingis of `his hows [the hows of him I.] , and Y schal make thin hows as the hows of Jeroboam, sone [the sone I.] of Nabath. [verse 4] Doggis [houndis I.] schulen ete that man of Baasa, that schal be deed in citee [the citee CKL. a citee I.] , and briddis of the eyr schulen ete that man of Baasa, that schal die in the feeld. [verse 5] Sotheli the residue of wordis [the wordis I.] of Baasa, and what euer thingis he dide, and hise batels, whether these ben not writun in the book of wordis of daies of the kynges of Israel? [verse 6] Therfor [And so I.] Baasa slepte with hise fadris, and he was biried in Thersa; and Hela, his sone, regnede for hym. [verse 7] Forsothe whanne the word of the Lord was maad in the hond of Hieu, sone [the sone I.] of Anany, aȝens Baasa, and aȝens his hows, and aȝens al yuel [the yuel I.] which he dide bifor the Lord, to terre hym to ire in the werkis of hise hondis, that he schulde be as the hows of Jero|boam, for this cause he [Baasa I.] killide hym, that is, Hieu [that is, Hieu, etc.; this sen|tence is not in Ebreu; it is a glos. In Ebreu it is, and for he killide Na|dab, his lord, bi tresoun, as Rabi Salomon seith. Lire here. C.] , the prophete, the sone of Anany. [verse 8] In the sixe and twentithe ȝeer of Aza, kyng of Juda, Hela, the sone of Baasa, regnyde on [upon I.] Israel, in Thersa, twei ȝeer. [verse 9] And Zamry, `his seruaunt [the seruaunt of Hela I.] , duyk of the half part of knyȝtis [his kniȝtis I.] , rebellide aȝens hym; sotheli Hela was in Thersa, and drank, and was drunkun in the hows of Arsa, prefect [a cheef officer I.] of Thersa. [verse 10] Therfor Zamri felde in, and smoot [smoot Hela I.] , and killide hym, in the seuene and twentithe ȝeer of Asa, kyng of Juda; and regnede for hym. [verse 11] And whanne

he [Zamry I.] hadde regned, and hadde [Om. I.] setun on [upon I.] his trone, he smoot al the hows of Baasa, and he [Om. C.] lefte not therof a pissere to the wal, and hise kynnesmen, and frendis. [verse 12] And [Also and I.] Zamri dide awey al the hows of Baasa, bi the word of the Lord, which [that I.] he spak to Baasa, in the hond of Hieu, the pro|phete, [verse 13] for alle the synnes of Baasa, and for the synnes of Hela, his sone, whiche [the whiche I.] synneden, and maden Israel to do [Om. I.] synne, and wraththiden the Lord God of Israel in her vanytees. [verse 14] Sotheli the residue of the wordis of Hela, and alle thingis whiche he dide, whether these ben not writun in the book of wordis of daies of the kyngis of Israel? [verse 15] In the seuene and twentithe ȝeer of Aza, kyng of Juda, Zamri regnede seuene daies in Tharsa; forsothe the oost [oost of Israel I.] bisegide Gebethon, the citee of Philisteis. [verse 16] And whanne it [the Philistees I.] hadde herd, that Zamri hadde rebellid, and hadde slayn the kyng, al Israel made Amry kyng to hem [the oost I.] , that was prince of [on A.] the chyualrye, on [upon I.] Israel, in that dai, in `the castels [her tentis I.] . [verse 17] Therfor Amry stiede [stiede up I.] , and al Israel with hym, fro Gebe|thon, and bisegide Thersa. [verse 18] Sothely [And I.] Zamri siȝ, that the citee schulde be ouercomun, and he entride in to the palis, and brente [verse 19] hym silf with the kyngis hows; and he was deed in hise synnes whiche he syn|nede, doynge yuel bifor the Lord, and goynge [in goynge I.] in the weie of Jeroboam, and in hise synnes, bi whiche he made Israel to do synne. [verse 20] Sotheli the residue of wordis [the wordis I.] of Zamri, and of his tresouns, and tyraun|trie, whether these ben not writun in the book of wordis of daies of the kyngis of Israel? [verse 21] Thanne the puple of Israel was departid in to twei partis; the half part of the [Om. I.] puple suede Thebny, sone [the sone I.] of Ge|neth, to make hym kyng, and the half [oother half I.] part suede Amry. [verse 22] Sotheli [And I.] the puple that was with Amry, hadde maystry [the maystry I.] ouer the

puple that suede Thebny, the sone of Ge|neth; and Thebny was deed, and Amri regnede. [verse 23] In the oon and thrittithe ȝeer of Aza, kyng of Juda, Amri regnede on [upon I.] Israel, twelue ȝeer; in Thersa he regnede sixe ȝeer. [verse 24] And he bouȝte of Soomeer, for twei talentis of siluer, the hil of Samarie, and `bildide that hil [he bildide it I.] ; and he clepide the name of the citee, which [that I.] he hadde bildid, bi the name of Soomer, lord of the hil of Samarie. [verse 25] Forsothe Amry dide yuel in the siȝt of the Lord, and wrouȝte wei|wardli [wickidly I.] , ouer [bifore I.] alle men that weren bifor hym. [verse 26] And he ȝede in al the weie of Jero|boam, sone [the sone I.] of Nabath, and in hise synnes, bi whiche he made Israel to do synne, that he schulde terre to ire, in his vany|tees, the Lord God of Israel. [verse 27] Forsothe the residue of wordis [the wordis BCI.] of Amry, and hise batels, which he dide, whether these ben not writun in the book of wordis of daies of the kyngis of Israel? [verse 28] And Amry slepte with hise fadris, and was biried in Sama|rie; and Achab, his sone, regnede for hym. [verse 29] Forsothe Achab, the sone of Amry, regn|ede on [upon I.] Israel, in the `eiȝte and thrittithe ȝeer [eiȝthe and thretti K.] of Asa, kyng of Juda; and Achab, sone [the sone I.] of Amry, regnede on [upon I.] Israel, in Sa|marie, two and twenti ȝeer. [verse 30] And Achab, sone [the sone I.] of Amry, dide yuel in the siȝte of the Lord, ouer alle men that weren bifor [verse 31] hym; and it suffiside not to hym that he ȝede in the synnes of Jeroboam, sone [the sone I.] of Nabath, ferthermore and he weddide a wijf, Jezabel, the douȝter of Methaal, kyng of Sydoneis; and he [Achab I.] ȝede, and seruyde Baal, and worschipide hym. [verse 32] And he set|tide [sette up I.] an auter to Baal in the temple of Baal, which [that I.] he hadde bildid in Samarie, [verse 33] and he plauntide a wode [mawmet wode I.] ; and Achab add|ide [addide to I.] in his werk, and terride to ire the Lord God of Israel, more [ouer I.] thanne alle kyngis [the kyngis I.] of Israel that weren bifor hym.
