[verse 1] Forsothe [And I.] it was doon, whanne Salo|mon had perfourmed the bildyng of the hows of the Lord, and the bildyng of the kyng, and al thing that he coueitide, and [verse 2] wolde make, the Lord apperide to Salo|mon [hym A.] the secunde tyme, as he apperide to hym [Salomon A.] in Gabaon. [verse 3] And the Lord seide to hym, Y haue herd thi preier, and thi bi|sechyng, which [that I.] thou bisouȝtist [hast bisouȝt I.] bifor
me; Y haue halewid this hows, which [that I.] thou bildidist [hast bildid I.] , that Y schulde sette there my name with outen ende; and myn iȝen and myn herte schulen be there in alle daies. [verse 4] Also if thou goist bifore me, as thi fadir ȝede, in simplenesse of herte, and in equite, and doist alle thingis whiche Y comaundide [haue comaundid I.] to thee, and kepist my domes, [verse 5] and my lawful thingis, Y schal sette the trone of thi rewme on [upon I.] Israel with outen ende, as Y spak to Dauid, thi fadir, and seide, A man of thi kyn schal not be takun awei fro the trone of Israel. [verse 6] Forsothe if bi turnyng awei ȝe and ȝoure sones turnen awey, and suen not me, and kepen not myn hestis and cerymonyes, whiche Y set|tide [haue sett I. sette EL.] forth to ȝou, but ȝe goen, and wor|schipen alien goddis, and onouren hem `bi [verse 7] outward [vttirward K.] reuerence [Om. [verse 8] And this hows schal be in to ensaumple of Goddis offence; ech man that schal passe bi it, schal wondre, and schal hisse, and schal seye, Whi hath the Lord do thus to this lond, and to this hows? [verse 9] And thei [men I.] schulen answere, For thei forsoken her Lord God, that ladde the fadris of hem out of Egipt; and thei sueden alien god|dis, and worschipiden hem, and onouriden hem; therfor the Lord brouȝte [hath brouȝt I.] in on [upon I.] hem al this yuel. [verse 10] Sotheli whanne twenti ȝeer weren fillid [fulfillid I.] , aftir that Salomon hadde bildid tweyne housis, that is, the hows of the Lord, and the hows of the kyng, [verse 11] while Hiram, kyng of Tire, ȝaf to Salo|mon trees of cedre, and of beech [firr I.] , and gold, bi al thing that he hadde nedeful; thanne Salomon ȝaf to Hiram twenti citees in the lond of Galile. [verse 12] And Hiram ȝede out of Tyre that he schulde se the citees, whiche Salomon hadde ȝoue to hym, and [verse 13] tho plesiden not hym; and he seide, Whe|thir
thes ben the citees, whiche thou, bro|ther, hast ȝoue to me? [verse 14] Also Hiram sente to king Sa|lomon sixe score talentis of gold. [verse 17] Ther|for Salomon bildide Gazer, and the lower [verse 18] Bethoron, and Balaath, and Palmyra in [verse 19] the lond of wildirnesse; and he made strong alle the townes, that [whiche I.] perteyneden to hym, and weren with out wal, and the citees of chaaris, and the citees of knyȝtis, and what euer thing pleside hym to bilde in Jerusalem, and in the [Om. I.] Liban, and in al the lond of his power. [verse 20] Salomon made tri|butaries `til to [vnto I. into S.] this dai al the puple, that lefte of Ammorreis, Etheis, and Fereseis, and Eueys, and Jebuseys, that [whiche I.] ben not of [verse 21] the sones of Israel, the [and the I.] sones of these hethen men, that [whiche I. the whiche sones I.] dwelliden in the lond, that is, whiche [Om. alle ȝeeris brent sacrifices and pesible sa|crifices, on [upon I.] the auter which [that I.] he hadde bildid to the Lord; and he brente en|cense [he brente encence; not bi him silf, but bi the bischops to whos office it perteynede. [verse 27] And Iram sente in that schip [naueye ELP.] hise seruauntis, schipmen, and kunnynge of the see, with the ser|uauntis [verse 28] of Salomon; and whanne thei hadden come in to Ophir, thei brouȝten fro thennus gold of foure hundrid and twenti talentis to kyng Salomon.
