CAP. XXIX.
[verse 1] Therfor alle the cumpenyes of Filisteis [the Filisteis I.] weren gaderid in [in to I.] Aphec, but also Israel settide tentis aboue the welle that was in Jezrael. [verse 2] And sotheli the princis of Fi|listeis [Philistee I.] ȝeden in cumpenyes of an hundrid, and in thousyndis; forsothe [but I.] Dauid and hise men weren in the laste cumpenye with Achis. [verse 3] And the princes of Filisteis seiden to Achis, What wolen these Ebreis to hem silf? And Achis seide to the princes of Filisteis, Whether ȝe knowen not Dauid, that was the seruaunt of Saul, kyng of Israel? and he was with me in [Om. I.] many daies, `ether ȝeeris [Om. C.] , and Y foond not in hym ony thing [ony thing; of ymagynyng to yuel, which schulde be per|seyued in so long tyme, if it hadde be verily in him. Lire here. C.] , fro the dai, in which he fledde to me `til to [vnto I.] this dai. [verse 4] Sotheli [Certis I.] the princes of Filisteis weren wrooth aȝens hym [Achis I.] , and seiden [thei seiden I.] to hym, The man turne aȝen, and sitte [abide he I.] in his place, in which thou hast ordened hym, and come he not down with vs in to batel, lest he be maad aduer|sarie to vs, whanne we han bigunne to fiȝte; for hou mai he plese his lord in other maner, no [Om. I.] but in oure heedis? [verse 5] Whether this is not Dauid, to whom thei sungen in daunsis, and seiden, Saul smoot in thousyndis, and Dauid smoot in hise ten thousyndis? [verse 6] Therfor Achis clepide Dauid, and seide to hym, The Lord lyueth; for thou art riȝtful, and good in my siȝt, and thi goyng out and `thin entryng [thi comyng yn I.] is with me in castels [tentis I.] , and Y `foond not [haue not founden I.] in thee ony thing of yuel, fro the day [tyme A.] in which thou camest to me til to this dai; but thou plesist not the princis [princis or satrapis I.] . [verse 7] Therfor turne thou aȝen, and go in pees, and offende thou not the iȝen
