CAP. XX.
[verse 1] And the Lord spak to Josue, and seide, Spek thou to the sones of Israel, and seie [verse 2] thou to hem, Departe ȝe the citees of fu|gytyues [exiled men I.] , ether of men exilid for vnwil|ful schedyng of blood [Om. ISX.] , of whiche [the whiche I.] citees [verse 3] Y spak to ȝou bi the hond of Moises, that [Om. K.] whoeuer sleeth vnwytyngli a man, fle [fle he I.] to [verse 4] tho [the S.] citees; that [and I.] whanne he hath fled to oon of these citees, he may ascape the ire [wrath I.] of the neiȝbore, which [that I.] is veniere of blood [the deth I.] . And he schal stonde bifor the ȝatis of the citee, and he [that slewe the man unwit|tingly. I marg.] schal speke to the eldre men of that citee tho thingis that schulen preue hym innocent [giltlees therof I.] ; and so thei schulen res|seyue hym, and schulen [thei schulen I.] ȝyue to hym place [a place I.] to dwelle [dwelle ynne I.] . [verse 5] And whanne the ven|gere of blood [the blood I.] pursueth hym, thei [thei of that citee I.] schulen not bitake hym in to the hondis [power I.] of the vengere; for vnwityngli he killide his neiȝbore, and is [he is I.] not preued his enemy bifor the secounde dai [Om. KX.] ethir the thridde dai. [verse 6] And he schal dwelle in that citee, til he stonde bifor the doom, and ȝelde [ȝelde or schewe I.] cause [the cause plures.] of his dede. And he that killide a [the I.] man, dwelle `in that citee [there I.] , til [til that I.] the grete preest
