[verse 1] The which ouergoon, the Lord seide [verse 2] to Josue, Chees twelue men, eche bi eche [verse 3] lynagis, and comaund to hem, that thei taken fro the mydil of Jordans trowȝ, where stoden the feet of the [Om. E.] preestis, twelue hardest stonus; the whiche ȝe shulen set in the place of tentis, where ȝe this nyȝt fitchen tentis. [verse 4] And Josue cle|pide [cleep EF.] twelue men, whom he chees of the [verse 5] sones of Irael, eche of eche lynagis; and seith to hem, Gooth bifore the arke of the Lord ȝoure God to the mydil of Jor|dan, and bere [bereth C.] ȝe thens [Om. H.] eche eche stonus

in ȝoure shuldres, after the noumbre of [verse 6] the sones of Irael, that it be a tokne bi|twixe [bytwene BCEFH.] ȝow. And whanne the sones of Irael asken ȝow to morwe, seiynge, What to hem wolen thes stonus? [verse 7] ȝe shulen an|swere to hem, The watrys of Jordan han failid before the arke of the boond of pees of the Lord, whanne he passide it; therfor thes stonus ben set into the [Om. F.] mynd [mydil A pr. m.] of the sones of Yrael, vnto with outen ende. [verse 8] Thanne the sones of Yrael diden as Josue comaundide to hem, ber|ynge fro the mydil of Jordanus trowȝ twelue stonus, as to hym the Lord co|maundide, after the noumbre of the sones of Yrael, vnto the place in the [Om. C.] which thei setten tentis; and there thei put|tiden [putte CE.] hem. [verse 9] Forsothe other twelue stonus putte Josue in the mydil of Jordans trowȝ, where stoden preestis, that beren the ark of the boond of pees of the Lord; and ben there vnto the day that is nowe. [verse 10] Forsothe the preestis, that beren the arke, stoden in the mydil of Jordan, to the tyme that alle thingis weren fulfillid, that the Lord comaundide to Josue, for he shulde speke to the puple, as Moises had seide to hym. And the puple hyede, and passide forth. [verse 11] And whanne alle weren goon ouere, ȝede ouere and the arke of the Lord, and the preestis wenten be|fore the puple. [verse 12] Forsothe the sones of Ruben, and Gad, and half the lynage of Manasse, aarmed wenten before the sones of Irael, as to hem comaundide Moyses. [verse 13] And fourti thowsand of fiȝtynge men bi companyes and oostis wenten vpon the pleyn and wijld feeldis of the cyte of Jericho. [verse 14] In that day the Lord magny|fiede Josue before al Yrael, for thei shul|den drede hym, as thei dredden Moyses, ȝit while he lyuede. [verse 15] And he seide to [verse 16] hym, Comaund to the preestis that beren the arke of the boond of pees, that thei styen vp fro Jordan. [verse 17] The which co|maundide

to hem, seynge, Stye [Steȝeth CE.] vp fro Jordan. [verse 18] And whanne thei weren goon vp, berynge the arke of the boond of pees of the Lord, and the drye erthe hadden bigunne to treed, the watris ben turned into his trowȝ, and floweden, as bifore thei weren woned. [verse 19] Forsothe the puple fro Jordan stiede the tenthe day of the firste moneth, and settiden [sette CH.] tentis in Gal|galis, aȝens the este coost of the cyte of Jericho. [verse 20] Forsothe the twelue stonus, `the whiche [that C.] thei token fro Jordans trowȝ, [verse 21] Josue putte in Galgalis; and seide to the sones of Irael, Whanne ȝoure sones asken to morwe her fadres, and seyn to hem, What to hem wolen thes stonus? [verse 22] ȝe shu|len teche hem, and seye, Bi the drye [verse 23] trowȝ we passiden this Jordan, the Lord oure God driynge the watris of it in oure siȝt, to the tyme that we weren ouer|passid, [verse 24] as he dide bifore in the Reed See, `the which [that C.] he dryede to the tyme that [verse 25] we weren ouerpassed, that alle the pu|plis of loondis leeren [lerne CE. leern FH.] the moost strong hoond of the Lord, and that ȝe dreden the Lord ȝoure God al tyme.
