[verse 1] And the Lord spak to Josue, seiynge, Spek to the sones of Yrael, and sey to [verse 2] hem, Seuer ȝe the cytees of fugityues, of whiche I spake to ȝou bi the hond of [verse 3] Moises, that [Om. A.] fleȝe to hem [hem that A.] , whoso euer [er E.] a lijf hath smytun vnwitynge [vnwitynge he flee to hem A.] ; that he mowe ascaap the wrath of the neiȝ|bore, [verse 4] that is wreker of the blood, whanne to oon of these cytees he fleeth. And he shal stoond before the ȝatis of the citee, and he shal speke to the aldren [elderes C.] of that citee tho thingis that hym silf preuen innocent; and so thei shulen take hym, and ȝyue hym a place to dwelle. [verse 5] And whanne the blood wreker hym pursue [purswueth C.] , thei shulen not take hym in to his hoondis; for vnwitynge he smoot the neiȝbore of hym, ne before two dayes or thre daies he shal be preued the enemye of hym. [verse 6] And he shal dwelle in that citee to the tyme that he stoond before dom, cause ȝeeldynge of his deede [deeth A.] . And abide he stille that hath slayn, to the tyme that the greet preest dye, that were in that tyme; thanne shal the mansleer turne aȝen, and go into the citee

and his hows, fro the which he fleiȝ. [verse 7] And thei seuerden [demedyn E pr. m.] Cedes in [and ABCFH.] Galile, of the hil of Neptalim, and Sichem in the hil of Effraym, and Caryatarbe, that is Ebron, in the hil of Juda. [verse 8] And biȝond Jordan, aȝens the est coost `of Jericho [Om. A.] , thei or|deynden Bozor, that is set in the feeldy [feeldli A.] wildirnes of the lynage of Ruben, and Ramoch in Galaad, of the lynage of Gad, and Gaulon in Basan, of the linage of Manasse. [verse 9] Thes ben the citees ordeynd to the sones of Irael, and to comlyngis that dwellen among hem, that `he [thei E pr. m.] fleeȝe to tho, the whiche vnwitynge a lijf hath smyten; and he die not in the hoond of the neiȝbour, coueytynge to wreek the shad blood, to the tyme that he to ex|pounen [expounynge E pr. m.] his cause, stoond before the puple.
