In þe erþe he made wiþ is staf : a sercle al aboute: [Ms. serche.] [cercle.] 45 þer bicom aput swiþe dep, : þt men hadde of gret doute. [pet. suiþe. dowte.] þis gode mon nuste wat it was, : ac an angel him sede: [what.] þt þer was aput of purgatorie, : þt ech mon miȝte of drede; [pette. man.] Somme soules were þer Inne ido, : hor sunnes uorte bete [þer som soules were inne ido hore sennes for to bete.] þt hi ne betten noȝt anerþe, : ar hi þis lif lete; [bette nouȝt.] 50 &, were aman quic oþer ded : þt þer Inne come, He ne scholde habbe oþer purgatorie : uorte þe day of dome, [nouȝt st. uorte.] Ac aftur he scholde to heuene, : ȝif he were good, iwende, [heuen. god wende.] & also, ȝif he luþer were, : to helle wiþþouten ende.
