mon, be war & eke wis, ȝef þou fallest, sone arys, ne ly þou none stounde; wiþ al þi myhte þou do þis, Line 70 þy soule sihþ; & soþ hit ys, [sihþ, ms. sit. Die Form "sit" könnte nur zu "sitten" gehören, während doch wohl an das Verhum "sighen", seufzen, seufzend bitten, zu denken ist. Vgl. Mar. 105.] blysse ichaue yfounde.
mon, þou hauest wicked fon, [Vgl. G. L. I.] þe alre worst is þat on, [þat on: der eine Feind ist gemeint, von dem schon die Rede gewesen ist, nämlich "þy fleysh". Bei der Aufzählung wird dann "þyn oune fleysh" (v. 76) als erster Feind noch einmal genannt] here nomes y shal telle; Line 75 þyn oune fleysh þy worst is fend; [þy worst is fend, ms. þy worldes fend; die Emendation wird durch die Konstruktion des folgenden Verses gerechtfertigt.] þat best shulde be þy frend, þat most doþ þe to quelle.
