XIV. Ase y me rod þis ender day.

Ein einsamer Spazierritt versetzt den Dichter in eine kontem|plative Stimmung, und in dieser singt er das Lob der Jungfrau. Auf entsprechende Weise wurde in No. V und in No. XII ein Marien|hymnus eingeleitet. Da auch wörtliche Anklänge nicht fehlen (z. B. þis ender day), so liegt der Gedanke nahe, dass wir von dem Dichter dieses Liedes bereits zwei Dichtungen, die eben erwähnten, kennen. — Die fünf Freuden der Maria waren übrigens für die geist|lichen Dichter des Mittelalters ein beliebtes Thema, vgl. z. B. V Gaudia, Rel. Ant. I, 48.
