Professor ten Brink giebt in seiner Geschichte der Englischen Litteratur eine treffliche Nachbildung dieses Liedes.

Da sich in diesem Liede und dem folgenden, die einem Verfasser angehören, zu Resten des mittelländischen Dialektes auch Formen gesel|len, welche dem nördlichen eigenthümlich sind (siehe XII, 1, 2, 12, 14), so ist das nordöstliche Grenzgebiet von Mercia das Geburtsland die|ser Lieder. Auch der Reim beweist dies. Vgl. Einl. zu W. L. VIII.
