Farley family papers 1761-1902 (bulk 1781-1856)
Franklin Christian Stout was born in Graceland, Maryland, on March 9, 1837, the son of Abram Stout, a physician. The family moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where Stout attended the Moravian Parochial School and Nazareth Hall. In the summer of 1862, he enlisted as a sergeant in the 129th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment, Company C, and was promoted to second lieutenant before mustering out nine months later. Stout worked as a merchant and treasurer for the Beaver Brook Coal Company. On June 10, 1864, he married Clara O. Clewell. Franklin C. Stout died on December 15, 1920.
