Ronald L. Johnstone was born on Aug. 9, 1934. He earned a B.A. from Concordia Theological Seminary, and both his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Sociology. On August 31, 1969, Johnstone was hired as an instructor at Central Michigan University (CMU). He served as a member of the CMU faculty, 1969-1992, and served as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, 1987-1992. During 1976-1977, Johnstone served as President of the CMU Faculty Association (FA). It was the only time there was a serious attempt to decertify the FA. Several of Johnstone’s books are in the CMU Libraries. In 2003, Johnstone was retired and living in Indiana. (This information is from Johnstone’s donation letter to the Clarke and the CMU Office of the President Faculty Card File collection.) For an organizational history of the CMU FA, see the catalog records and finding aids of the other FA collections in the Clarke.
