[Lydia] Maria [Child] ALS to Louis[a Loring], Undated, July 4

Lydia Maria Child Papers, 1831-1894 [Box 1, Folder 84]

may help to arrest the progress of the cholera. We are all well here, and continue to eat salad, stringed beans, new potatoes, and all sorts of things. I enjoy them a good deal more because they are not recommended. I always find it pleasant to act contrary to "statutues made and provided". It creates a sort of temporary illusion that I am free. My pen is very bad, and constantly refuses to make a mark. I love you dearly, you precious soul. I believe, on the whole, I love you better than anybody in the world. I mean by you, you & Ellis. Yours affectionately Maria.
