Did you not have two little books with pieces of poetry of mine in them, called The Pearl, or something of that sort? They were published several years ago, for little souvenirs. One of the pieces of poetry was about little red-riding-hood, I think; or about a little girl, that was walking alone through the fields and woods. If these books are conveniently at hand, I wish you would copy them for me; but don't take much trouble about it. I suppose you will be glad to see John. I know he will be glad enough to see you all; and I shall be glad enough to see him back. I don't know what I should do without him. The old folks are gone to Pennsylvania. Nobody stays at home,
