Unidentified ALS to Unidentified, August 19, 1894

Lydia Maria Child Papers, 1831-1894 [Box 1, Folder 76]

I suppose those two sisters are quite unconscious of their selfishness and how they are really spoiling the lives of both A. F. and S. O. J. In two years Theodore will go to College and then Sarah hopes they will all go to live in Boston or Cambridge. Annie says they have a most solitary life all their old friends have left Berwick and Miss Mary has not the energy or capacity to make new ones, or to interest herself in the factory people and others - I thought she was as severe upon Miss Mary as she ever allows herself to be! Did you by the way ever receive S. O. J's letter which I forwarded? It should have reached you long-ago, as I sent it to Wiesbaden. And do you receive the papers I send? Mr. & Mrs. George Howe departed a day or two before so I did not see them. It seems she felt quite dreadfully to go just at the last, that Annie seemed to think they would both be happier over there.
