L[ydia] Maria Child ALS to [Ellis Gray Loring], November 30, 1857
Lydia Maria Child Papers, 1831-1894 [Box 1, Folder 68]
Now, all goes better. The swelling in David's knee was not a white swelling, as we feared. He is still sore and stiff, but free from pain, and his natural appetite has returned. He is able to walk to the post-office, and occasionally saw a little wood; which has not been the case for many weeks. I also am very much on the mending order, and am not without hopes that I shall come out from the ordeal "almost as good as new." If I do, I think I shall be a more thankful woman than I ever have been. The box of oranges and lemons came safely, and were peculiarly acceptable. I have had a craving for lemonade, and an idea that it would be good
