[Lydia] Maria [Child] ALS to [Ellis Gray Loring], December 14, 1856
Lydia Maria Child Papers, 1831-1894 [Box 1, Folder 62]
lives so far from here, that it would hardly be worth while to come if the travelling was bad; for all father's clothing and furniture is not worth $50. I have therefore substituted, in my mind, Mr. William C. Grout, for the principal one. William Baldwin; George E. Sherman. I want my brothers to understand that the portion of wood-lot was willed to me years before I came to live with father. I scrupulously guarded him against any change in my favor, after I came to nurse him; for the feeling was too sacred to be sold. Yours truly, Maria.
