[Lydia] Maria [Child] ALS to Ellis Gray Loring, August 28, [1853]
Lydia Maria Child Papers, 1831-1894 [Box 1, Folder 51]
Perhaps I seemed somewhat brusque in my rejection of Jewett's offer to republish. The fact is, the sight of a friend is so unusual to me, that my spirits rebounded from depression, and I felt disposed to rattle on, hap hazard. But even after sober reflection, I do not like the plan of republishing. If I can get a chance to write, I want to be about something more interesting. Moreover, Mr. Francis republished all my books five years ago; except the Oasis and The Appeal; and I am confident they would have a very limited and forced sale. What is the address of the Woods? I should like to know whether anything is due on The Frugal Housewife, or The Girl's Book. I have not heard for nearly three years. Yours with grateful love, Maria.
