Lydia Maria Child Papers, 1831-1894 [Box 1, Folder 47]
peace and quietness, far from the world and its ways. I will endeavor to come on in the course of a fortnight; or rather we will. I am in hopes to find some small house to let in South Natick, near my niece Susan Bigelow. If so, I will hire it right off, and plant some radishes &c. If there is no such place to be had, we will either board with my niece Susan Bigelow, or my father, until fall. We both thank you most cordially for your kind and wholesale invitation. If we could be happy any where on earth under such circumstances, it would be in your family, my best and dearest friend. But such a position would be quite insupportable. A little corner of my own, even if it be the corner of a barn, is absolutely necessary to my comfort. And now when my interest is entirely withdrawn
